I won't lie, when I first heard Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" I immediately labelled him a one-hit wonder, a guy with a great song that we'd never see again. I didn't know he'd already released a bunch of other records before that one, and I didn't know that he was about to hit another home run just a few months later.
So, instead of dissing consumerism and a slavery to brands and corporate logo's ("Fifty dollars for a T-shirt - that's just some ignorant bitch (shit)I call that getting swindled and pimped (shit) I call that getting tricked by a business") this time he looks to the rather more serious subject of homosexuality and.. well, it's sheer class. Take a listen.
Macklemore is quickly becoming THE voice of modern rap for me right now.

Well, he didn't exactly destroy the mic there, but the lyrics are full of truth and finishing with the words of Jesus Christ was a great choice, although I'd imagine the people that bit is aimed at won't make it to the end of the tune. I definitely enjoyed Thrift Shop more, but I am not going to fault a guy for using his vice to make a statement now that people are listening. Pretty good stuff.
