So I've decided I'm going to have a bit of a Godzilla week at the Fortress where, time permitting, I'll show a bunch of cool videos that I've found online about our favourite monster.
Now this first one is a bit strange. I was told it WAS official footage from the new movie, but then told it's not yet finished or something. And it's from Comic Con so the quality isn't great, but I don't know if it's part of the movie itself or test footage for the convention itself. Maybe someone out there knows and can fill in the blanks.
Regardless, time to say hello to Big G once again..
And what do we think about that, then?
EDIT - I've noticed on Facebook that a lot of the links to this video are being pulled, so if this happens by the time you read this, search for "Godzilla Encounter."

No vid, of course. I read about it, though, and apparently they had a pretty amazing set-up there where they had a fake Tokyo set and simulated a Godzilla attack and everything. Sounds fucking EPIC. They said the crowd went nuts for the trailer footage. With Pacific Rim out of the way and not quite blowing me away as much as I wish it did (it was freakin' great, though), Big G is my next "can't miss it on the big screen" film. Hurry up, 2014!

Haven't been to the cinema in months, so missed out on pretty much every big release this year. Pacific Rim is one such casualty. Here's a second attempt at the footage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxWacOVm2dY

This photograph was taken at a licensing expo in Sao Paulo, Brazil: If this is the look they're using for the new movie, I'm thrilled! It's very true to the essential design elements of the character while updating it in a fresh way. The eyes convey personality, a crucial factor in setting Godzilla apart from a generic movie monster, and it looks like they even gave him gills - nice touch! I really hope this is what we're getting.

So what is the "best" Godzilla film in your guys opinions and why?

The original Japanese version "Gojira" is head and shoulders above every other monster movie ever made. It's not just a great monster movie, it's an amazing film, period. It's worlds apart from the American cut that uses Raymond Burr voiceover narration in place of the actual story and cuts out most of the stuff involving Japanese people. In a Japanese film, that tends to be an issue.
In terms of kaiju beatdown action, "GMK: Giant Monsters All Out Attack" is my pick. It was an inspired take on Godzilla that put back in the role of villain and actually had some pretty sweet special effects. I would fucking love to watch that film in an actual theater.

Damn, Benjamin, I hope you're right. That is glorious. Really captures the look of the original. I like that a lot.
Quillford - I probably have a couple. The original, Japanese still packs a hell of a punch, but I'm a sucker for Godzilla being a good guy. Terror of Mechagodzilla is probably my favourite. There are huge close-ups of Mecha G that make him look like an absolute bad-ass, and (I think) it's the only Godzilla movie with blood in it. Big G bleeds?? In this he does. For sheer dorky, stupid fun, Godzilla vs Megalon, complete with a flying dropkicking, punching his fists in rage with big, cutesy dough-eyes Godzilla and an almost WWE tag team wrestling feel, is probably the Godzilla film I've watched the most. If you want to get a girl into giant monster movies, no female in the world can turn down Son of Godzilla.

In Godzilla vs Gigan (another tag-team) Big G bleeds like a stuck pig. I could swear that in the original Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla, he gets some chunks taken out of him too, but it's been a crazy long time since I've watched that one.
