And we wrap this series up today with a recent number one single that just seemed to come from nowhere and was suddenly everywhere. It took us Brit's a full year to catch up with this song after it was a hit in the States first.
Fairly fitting we look at this track, after briefly discussing the merits of the 90's, because that's exactly when this song sounds like it was made. That's a compliment.
When it comes to pop music, the Swedes have a history of pretty much nailing it right on the head, and Icona Pop's "I Love It", all bratty shouty verses and throbbing baseline, will burrow into your brain and refuse to leave. At least, that's what I think, but what do the rest of the PJL think?
For the last time (for a while, at least), let justice be served.

That has not just a 90s vibe, I'm beginning to wonder, was this son written in the 90s, but at the time (with everything else going on) was that song just too much 90s for the 90s to take?
Honestly, I love that song. It's hit a real soft spot for me, somewhere between honest appreciation and nostalgia for the 1990s. And that nostalgia I have a lot of too.
I can only say, and my only verdict could possibly be: NOT GUILTY!

Jesus Christ, those lyrics. How fucking hard does this little girl have to try to sound edgy? Not an ounce of soul in that shit. Maybe I'm getting old or maybe decades of punk and metal have ruined me for transparent attempts at sounding hardcore while being 100% safe and non-threatening, but I'd nominate this one for "most childish song of the decade" so far.

I actually like this song.
I also enjoy watching the brainless morons I work with sing along to it like it is some great happy party song.
Yeah cos crashing your car into a bridge is really fun!!!
arseholes.
Catchy song though. Therefore I dig it.

And so we bid farewell to this series with yet another reprieve, with only one person calling for their heads. But after no less than an unprecedented THREE request to keep the Pop Justice League going, I've decided to listen to the public, but with a slight change of perspective.
So the voting stays. The "guilty pleasures" style aspect stays. But it's not from me, but rather Mrs Curmudgeon herself, so let's see what examining the murky depths of her music taste brings out. And trust me, her music taste can be pretty damn murky.
