Make that VERY early thoughts, in that I've just watched the very first episode. Maybe it's too early to tell, maybe I've been spoiled by the almost impossibly high benchmark set by the other two series but... I can't help but be disappointed by the latest installment of the franchise.
The first series premise was simple but with so much weight behind it. A family move into a haunted house. That was pretty much it. The second? Strange goings-on in a lunatic asylum. But what they had before was more grounded and believable, so when the crazy shit DID start it was more shocking.
Now? It started off like something from an MTV show aimed at 15 year olds. "So I've just found out I'm a witch and I have to go to witch school." Really? That's your plot? And a woman sucking life/blood from others to stay young? Pretty sure that's been done to death. And a girl flipping a bus with her mind in the first episode? Where do you GO from there?
Anyway, early days and I hope I'm wrong. But if this was the first viewing of American Horror Story I may not have reached a second. Step your game up, guys.

It hasn't gotten better so far and I'm several episodes in. I still enjoy it, but at this point it's more of a celebration of the cast than a great season unto itself.
