There are some things that you can't avoid. Death, taxes, the moon following the sun.. and Mrs C reminding me every day that she introduced me to my new favourite solo artist and the man behind my top album of 2013. Unless something spectacular comes along in the next seven weeks and blows me off my feet, this is the record that is most played and most loved in the Curmudgeon's world this year. Even though Adam Green made his name with lo-fi upstarts The Mouldy Peaches, he really began making a wave with his solo material. But it's his latest album, a collaboration with silky voiced singer Binki Shapiro, that really put him on a high. Hipster credentials be damned, this is a fucking GREAT record. Here's the lead single, the Bowie "Heroes" inspired, "Just To Make Me Feel Good." Think 60's dream pop, all layered production coupled with Binki's heartbreaking vocal and you've got a future classic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrbeDDiU92gMy other favourite track, and it's a hard pick if I'm being honest, is just Binki alone. "Cassanova" is just delicious. THAT chorus. Dammmn. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wJj5Vb5CgsAs the second comment says, "I'm in love." So there you have it, the Adam Green and Binky Shapiro album is my favourite record of 2013. If you're looking for something new and something different, then you have found it. Just don't tell Mrs C. You'll never hear the fucking end of it..

That guitar tone in the first song is dead-on Heroes. Is it a sample? Nice old school sound all around. Thumbs up.
