This week I have picked a track. Which on paper SHOULD have been amazing. Was Famously AWFUL. But clearly stuff of legend. This is Mick Jagger and David Bowie's 1985 Cover of Martha & The Vandella's "Dancin' In The Street" It was done as part of the whole Live Aid Hoo-hah and the video to this is one of my earliest memories of watching the now de-funked British Institution which was Top Of The Pops. I was nearly 4 and I used to tune in every week just to watch this song. I absolutley loved it. I still think it is awesome and love the whole campness of the video. Those shirts are amazing!

1982. Bowie joins up with Queen to create Under Pressure, quite possibly the greatest collaboration of all time.
1985. Bowie joins up with Mick Jagger to create.. this. Hmmm.
Ah, it's enjoyable enough. If anyone is allowed to release a cheesy fun cover (for charity, no less), two of the 20th century's greatest ever talents surely qualify. That video, though. Damn.
No doubting the quality of the song itself, and it's a fun cover..but really, combining Bowie and Jagger really should have resulted in so much more.

Family Guy named it the gayest video ever and aired it in its entirety with the admonishment, "That happened, and we all let it happen". Absolutely hilarious. The video is terrible, but I don't hate the song. It's corny, but it beats the shit out of Van Halen's overproduced synth-fest version.

There's a first time for everything but I chose Sublime and then changed my mind. I don't know how to feel about this... two of the greatest musicians alive and they make that video? I mean, I have heard the song before and that's alright actually. Sound wise - it's alright, I would probably listen to that over the vandellas really. On reflection it ain't sublime, it's two of my favourite vocalists doing a song which is alright in an alright fashion. So it get's a meh.

I actually really dislike this song. I'm really not sure why either.
The beat and melody just doesn't do anything for me, and the lyrics are usually something I can forgive but I just can't here. I find this song just bland, and not even in the good style of bland. To me it sounds like something Bruce Springsteen wrote when he was uninspired, and then gave away because he couldn't face to record it himself. I hate it.
Voted down!
