Thought I'd share this with you because, even though I'm not a fan of metal as such, I know a few of you are. So here's 10 reasons to hate metal bands. thegreatsouthernbrainfart.com/?p=12138I can get some of these (why would I care what other bands you've been on stage with? So what?) I would't call Korn or Slipknot "hack bands", but again, I know almost nothing about this genre. So does the guy speak the truth?

Nah, he's just raging for entertainment value. It's an easy way to get attention. For example, I could write a list of ways I know an article is going to suck and then say "if all you do is list things that are common in a given entertainment genre and then rant about how much anyone who does those things sucks then you are a shit writer." If you've never liked a band who plays a style of music with the word "core" in it, your taste in music is either too mainstream or too narrow for anyone to consider your musical opinions valid when discussing underground music. But yeah, I would have no interest in a band who advertises using FB likes and crap like that. Just pitiful.

He makes some valid points but all he's really saying is that he doesn't appreciate modern metal. I had a laugh about his first point (unreadable logos) because it is almost exclusively a death metal thing, and death metal is home to some of the worst metal bands on the planet. He was right to take a shot at Victory Records too- I love two bands on that label but hate at least a dozen.
Definitely agree with Trashcanman about the "core" bit. I also find some degree of value in bands talking about who they've toured with. If it's a one-off show, I don't care, but being invited on a tour is somewhat impressive. A lot of headlining acts will specifically pick out younger, unknown bands that they like and invite them on the road. So if you aren't good you're not going anywhere. And if you're really good, someone somewhere is going to make it happen for you.
