Again, something that sat dormant on my Sky planner turns quickly into absolute must-see-the-next-episode television. Last month it was Being Human's swansong, this time it was the first season of Utopia. A UK series that debuted early this year, I only watched it after seeing it described as "the drama for our generation!" And the opening scene (two guys walk into a comic book shop, split one guy's head wide open with a metal pipe and then use a gas bottle and mask on another), I was pretty much hooked. A scarily plausible sci-fi thriller about a graphic novel that reveals a massive government plot (of which I won't say) that turns into all kinds of ultra grim stuff. A man who gets questioned by being tied to a chair and then bleach rubbed into his eyeballs. A government who frame a 10 year old boy for a school shooting massacre. A terrifying, emotionless, mumbling mass murderer. And the fact that if someone asks "where is Jessica Hynde?" - yeah, you're pretty much fucked. Like I said, I'm a year late on this, but hunt this show down.

A year late seems about right to hunt for it on this end....Oh wait, there's a school shooting episode? Fuck me, it'll never be allowed in the States. I guess I'm importing.
Goddamn, I love how cheap stuff is in the UK. I'm ordering today!

I thought Netflix would have had it for sure. I checked Amazon (US) and it was pretty damned expensive for the DVD. Where did you get it cheap from?

Amazon UK. I was pissed because right after it shipped, I got an email that said series 2 of The Black Mirror was available too. Could have saved on shipping, damn it. I'm up to the season finale already. Cool show, but probably won't make it to the US due to the level of violence. Orphan Black is a modest hit over here and Utopia shares a lot of traits with that one, but it might be a little too hardcore for the same audience. That makes it about perfect more me. I'll probably be writing about it soon.
