Not wanting to sound like a dinosaur or anything, but what happened to kids toys? The amount of people who have kids now where they stick them in front of an iPad to keep them quiet now is just depressing. I get that times change and trends come and go, but sitting playing Angry Birds is no replacement for sitting in the garden feeding Luke Skywalker into mud, only for him to be rescued by B.A Baracus flying on a GI Joe helicopter.
Anyway, doomed modern youth aside, I thought we'd take a look back at some of the toys and games we had as kids, the stuff you loved, the big disappointments and the stuff you always wanted but your cruel parents never bought you. We're doing a huge business right now selling toys on eBay (bought a guy's garage full of Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man etc etc for £130, sold just two Boglins for a total of £175, can't argue with that), and some of the things I've coming across I would have adored as a young Curmudgeon.
The action figures I had I often completely changed from who they were supposed to be. One of my favourite toys was a GI Joe figure called "Flamethrower."
He became a superhero that was the alter-ego of the New Hope Han Solo figure, who would rush to action, Spider-Man style, and he could fly and blow fire on enemies. Doesn't get more bad-ass than that.
Transformers remain something I admire rather than enjoy. I had a couple, but they were way too fiddly to really play with too much. We've sold a lot of them on eBay, and they look cool as all hell but they're way too awkward to really have much fun with.
He-Man, on the other hand. Awesome. Loved the toys as a kid, would have LOVED Castle Grayskull, which was included, 100% complete, in that £130 haul, and some of the toys I didn't have but are selling now just look fantastic. Terrible names, though. Buzz-Off.. really?
Star Wars is obvious, and Boba Fett was my favourite, and he and Han had kinda patched up their differences and worked as a team in my universe.
Ahh, so many memories. Share yours.
