You see a light in the sky. Your Spider-Sense tingles. You feel rage burn inside your chest as a transformation takes place. A conveniently placed phone booth is in sight. Er, you're already a mutant.
Anyway, the time is once again upon us, time to don our cloaks and cowls, our masks and costumes and dole out some well deserved Pop Justice as only we, the great and the good can. Like in Mega City One, here we are the judge, jury and executioners, and we all stand in judgement as yet another offering is dragged from their cells and thrown in front of us. Hmm, we're beginning to sound a bit like super villains now. I'd better get on with this before I make things worse.
So, our first entry in a long time is returning to some familiar territory. It's his first solo outing on the Fortress, but his band have graced this page as have two of his band mates, each with their own solo records. Why, it's former laughing stock and now British pop royalty Gary Barlow, from also former laughing stock and now British pop royalty Take That.
Gary Barlow's run has been an interesting one. After Take That split up in the 90's, he would see former friend and now rival Robbie Williams become the nations poster boy, while his own solo records floundered until he was dropped by his record label. He largely vanished from the public eye for a decade before Take That's triumphant, and let's be honest, pretty fucking great, comeback.
Another well received and billion selling Take That album followed, but it's his second solo album, the first since his comeback, we're looking at today. As it's Gary Barlow, no-one expected dub step or punk rock. What they expected, and what they got, was well written pop songs, hooks and melodies. Who would want it any other way?
Here's the first single off the record, Let Me Go. It's up to YOU, however, to cast a critical eye and decide whether Barlow lives or dies. Choose wisely, friends.
