It'd be a shame if someone Killed it. You've probably read this online already, but a certain portion of the internet is crying into their neckbeards at the announcement from Lucas himself that all those Star Wars books, graphic novels and video games you've been into for 30 years? Yeah, they're nothing more than fan fiction now. metro.co.uk/2014/04/27/new-star-wars-films-will-not-recognise-the-expanded-universe-as-official-canon-says-lucasfilm-4710407/I've barely dipped my toe into the Star Wars expanded universe waters, so this doesn't affect me at all, and as long as you enjoy the stories I suppose it doesn't matter, but I can imagine a LOT of people being pissed by this news. Are you one of them?

Nope. It's been common knowledge for years, I believe. Maybe not official, but accepted. There's too much and too many different versions out there to expect filmmakers to be beholden to all that crap at this point. Sorry. Should have seen this coming. What I am pissed about is them declaring that the Clone Wars cartoon was canon. Lame sauce, that was. I don't accept that shit at all.

I got into a big argument with some fellow Star Wars nerds about this a few months ago. I've always considered the movies to be the only true "canon" material out there, but one of the guys I was arguing with was adamant it all counts. I've barely scratched the surface on some of that stuff, and admittedly a lot of it is really clever and interesting, but there's no way it all adds up. Too much conflicting backstories and other BS to ever really interest me.
In short, I support this declaration.

The worst part about this news? RIP. Doomed to rot in the belly of the Sarlaac after all.

I doubt it. I'm pretty confident that little tidbit will find its way to canon.
