So anyone else see Amazing Spider-Man 2? I had no intention of going to see it since the first one was pretty lame, but my son managed to convince me to take him. I'm really glad he did because it was pretty fucking great. The performances were all really good whereas Emma Stone pretty much carried the first one for me. Most of the stuff on the trailer that pissed me off ("I LOVE being Spider-man!") was cut, and the music was actually really good.
The Goblin thing was handled pretty poorly, but it leads to a moment from the comics that I didn't think they would do in a million years. They did a really great job leading up to it, but I thought there was no way they'd go through with it. You probably know what I'm talking about, but it was really fucking well done and put a boldd stamp on a film that was already better than its predecessor in every way. Give it a shot and let me know what you thought.

Interesting. I was going to see this and Captain America today but plans changed at the last minute. I'm going on Thursday so I'll let you know what I think then.
For what it's worth, yours is the only good feedback I've read..

Yeah, that really surprised me. Cap 2 is better, but I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Spidey this time around. The movie's still kind of poorly structured, like the first, but the performances were actually convincing and there are a few really great scenes.

Finally managed to see Spidey alongside Godzilla (of course getting it's own thread).
SPOILER WARNINGS AHEAD
So..hmm. I enjoyed it, a lot I really didn't like and part of me wishes I didn't read comics because I wouldn't be sitting thinking "well, that can't be right."
I'm not a huge fan of Harry being the Green Goblin. I get why they did it and it works for this story but man, killing off Norman like that just felt weird. Harry is a pretty good slimy creep, but I don't buy him as THE super villain in Peter's life.
Interesting that they bring The Gentleman into the series as that mysterious guy from the last two films. I hate that they've got an assortment of ready made suits for the Sinister Six for some hired goons to seemingly take on board. That's not how someone like Doctor Octopus gets created.
And what was with that weird X-Men scene at the end?

That was advertising, my man. As if we don't all know the movie's coming out. They wanted to capitalize on Marvel Studio's habit of post-credits bonuses, but they were too fucking lazy to come up with one so they just slapped a promotion for the new X-Men movie on there. Weak. But Harry's lameness aside, what did you think about killing off Gwen Stacy? I felt like Emma Stone was the heart and soul of both films and they did such a great job selling their relationship this time around. Coupled with the promise Peter made at the end of the first film, my heart literally stopped for a second the moment that line went taut and bounced her off the fucking ground. I thought it was really gutsy move on their part and a pretty effective use of a classic moment from the comics that I never expected to see carried out on film. It really made a film I was enjoying but not loving stand out in my mind.
