It doesn't happen often, but have you ever heard a song on the radio that stops you in your tracks, and you listen to it, transfixed, and then you need to own it straight away? It's happened a couple of times for me. One time was on a bus, sun streaming through the window and Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" came on. I'd never heard it before and I remember thinking this is what going to Heaven must be like. This time around? Playing pool with a friend when this song came on. I thought it was Justin Hawkins from terrible comedy rock outfit the Darkness, and I hated the fact I loved a song by them. Turns out I didn't, turns out I was hearing a future number one debut single from a future number one debut album, a singer originally rejected by Simon Cowell's record label (who now play his songs on the X Factor, gotta love that). The man is Mika. The song is Grace Kelly. And here it is. youtu.be/EaEPCsQ4608How did we like this one?

Uuuuuuuuh.....I don't know? I'm definitely getting a Darkness "is this guy serious?" vibe from it. I don't hate it, but it's not really for me either.

Did the Darkness make any noise in the US, Trash? They came and went here and are now a "yeah, what was that all about?" kind of topic, and I fucking despised them. Were they popular over there?

Meh. I Believe in a Thing Called Love made a small splash, but I've never exactly met a Darkness superfan. Definitely a one hit wonder band on their best day in America.
