I'm attempting to iron out the wrinkle that was last week with a far safer bet. No more dodgy looking guys in dismal pubs singing a Capella, this time we're going for bonafide pop, and someone who is way more kind on the eye to boot. Win win. Oh, and she's arguably the most famous woman on the planet. That too. This song was a sizeable hit when it was originally released, but when it comes to Madonna hits no-one really remembers it. Like a Virgin? Sure. Like a Prayer? Of course. Hell, the single she released from the second Austin Powers movie was THE most played song on British radio that year. And even though Madonna is now more of a victim of casual sexism (the "LOL she's old" abuse that no aging male pop/rock star gets) than releasing great singles, and some of her later work is fucking dire, this song is, in my eyes, an under-rated gem. And she's lovely in this video, too. Something to, ahem, Cherish, even. youtu.be/8q2WS6ahCnY

Fuck this comment in particular. Madonna was one of the sexiest women on the planet for 30-odd years. It's was not a bad run by any standard and that video confirms it if anything. And pretty much any song she recorded from the 80's or 90's gets automatic classic status. Love it.

The thing about Madonna is I think she still CAN knock out classic pop songs, she just seems to get bogged down with getting the latest/coolest producers etc. Some of her later songs are dreadful, but recent singles like "Hung Up" and "Sorry" are pretty damn great. Plus, any fifty year old that can still pull this off? Still got it.
