Dunno about the US, but in the UK right now Scotland is pretty much THE subject of choice, and you can't go on Facebook without being bombarded with rants, "facts" and political bile all about the referendum. Two days and counting till it all comes to a head. So with the eyes of the world upon us, it's surely the best time to show another side of Scotland. If it were down to me I'd have the music side covered (Belle and Sebastian, Bis, Amy MacDonald, Idlewild) but it really must be time to show this no doubt classic off. I haven't seen it and it looks pretty difficult to buy, so come on Hollywood. Let's show a realistic potrayal of Scotland for once, like in..The Loch Ness Terror. Ach, laddie. Definitely one of those times you want to show the monster less. Not to spoil your national pride, but America don't give no fucks about nothing that isn't about 'Murica or countries 'Murica should bomb. And we don't want to bomb Scotland. Yet. Plus I don't do news anymore because all it is is celebrities beating women, people shooting up schools, and pundits telling us who 'Murica (or sometimes Israel) should bomb next. How are things over there? Shit be cray?

Like, totally cray cray. OK, lets both agree to never use that expression again.
Everyone is talking about it. Everyone. Everywhere. Every single Facebook status is about it, more bile filled and idiotic than the next. I must have seen that Groundskeeper Willie video about 1000 times. It made every newspaper.
So it happens today, gets counted tonight and we find out tomorrow. Then will continue the absurd conspiracy theories (the BBC are biased and don't show the real news! They use pencils on the ballot papers so they can rub out the X's and write them in the other box!) And make no mistake, then the fighting will start. Some strange, strange times are afoot.

Looks like it'll be more of the same, then, but If you've got a particularly bile-filled link to show me I'd love to see what the arguments were, pro and con.

Been a few days since I posted, so it turns out I was psychic. Remember how I said there would be fighting? To the surprise of no-one, what else does Scotland do when there's two opposing views? We riot, of course. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/scenes-violence-break-out-george-4290949I don't have any specific For and Against arguments to hand (I tried to delete them from my mind) but to give you an idea, remember the guy that used to come in here a few years ago, Calum Waddell? He's always been an unbearably smug, pretentious dick online, often insufferably so on Facebook, but he got into some massive strop with me on Facebook, was shouted down by people on my page and then promptly blocked and deleted me. As did my sister. Fuckin' nuts.

I was a flat out NO. From the minute I heard about the idea I was against it, not least because Mrs C is English herself. Just way too many unanswered questions (what happens to our Pound, international roaming charges for mobile phones like we're in another country.. because we would be). I loathed the flag waving patriotic, Braveheart quoting idiocy of the whole Yes campaign and I just didn't think it would work.
The problem with the whole thing though is religion, which is where a huge percentage of the No vote lies. It's way too long and boring to go into huge detail, but a majority of "No" voters are devoted to keeping in league with the Queen, and becoming independent would mean splitting with the Crown. That is a MAJOR reason for keeping part of the UK for them. Unfortunately anyone who voted "no" was either labelled in with that lot or branded, sigh, "cowards."
It really was a depressing time. The "no" vote won, though, and the inevitable "fix" claims flooded in. Fingers crossed we've seen the worst of it all and we can just.. I dunno, fucking MOVE ON.

Funny thing is in America when states seceded we went in and razed the motherfucking places to the ground so bad that people are still crying about it 200 odd years later. And those same people identify the most strongly as American patriots and dispute the atrocities we perpetrate elsewhere to this day EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE STILL PISSED ABOUT HAVING THE SAME THING DONE TO THEM. At least Britain gives you guys the option to secede.
I don't really get religion in Europe. A lot of Europeans seem to be portrayed as atheists and I remember Tony Blair had to "come out of the closet" about being Christian once he was out of office because he was afraid of people thinking he was a "nutter" for believing in God. But then there's the whole Ireland thing which is well-publicized and I don't think I've ever heard anything involving Scottish religious politics so I kind of assumed it wasn't a big deal there. Your people have kind of a reputation for being free and easygoing, which is the opposite of how religion is viewed. Anyways, Iron Maiden's "The Clansman" (which needs to be pronounced VERY carefully over here) getting much play?
