When it comes to shitty luck, having a sure-fire hit single pulled from radio the week of release because the song title sort of, kind of, a little bit, references conflict and war, is certainly up there. The band never gained any momentum after that and so can't even call themselves one hit wonders, despite releasing great albums and being fucking awesome live. Shit luck. That band with shit luck is Hot Hot Heat. The song that was pulled was "Bandages", which looked like it could join the canon of indie hits like the Killer's "Mr Brightside" and Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out", as guitar band songs that even X Factor drones know. "Bandages", a quirky, catchy radio friendly oddball should have garnered the band mainstream attention, being put on the Radio One daytime playlist. This was in 2003, back when bands who actually played instruments could still get played on the radio and sell records. So because of issues in the Middle East, the song was pulled from the radio because, and this is a direct quote, of the repeated use of the word "bandages." Because bandages equals.. injuries? From.. war? I have no fucking idea. So even though they continued to record and tour, they never gained any of the original traction they had. A genuine shame. So I'm not going to play Bandages, because they have other, better songs than that one. This is from the second album, and it perfectly sums up the kind of catchy alternative pop they should have become well known for. This is "Middle of Nowhere." www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Nk2iNjLYuk
