Going by his fairly cryptic Tweets, Bowie's son didn't like it. A bunch of critics didn't like it. A fair amount of people on Youtube didn't like it. But Mrs C fucking LOVED it and was desperate for me to see it. I went through a period where I was kind of obsessed with Lady Gaga, but after a run of shit singles I had kind of gave up on her. After her mouth-watering turn on the otherwise disappointing American Horror Story: Hotel and now this, I'm a fan again. Yeah, its extravagant. Yeah it's over the top. But when you're singing songs from an album called "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" you're hardly going to make it low-key. Obvious and fairly obnoxious advertising for Intel aside, I really dug this, and let's face it, no other contemporary popstar could pull this shit off. Imagine Beyonce or Rihanna trying this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fGBZhsa4VU

So what are the critics bitching about? The guitar was pretty weak, but hardly a problem. That was the only worthwhile thing I've seen form the Grammys in forever. I'm far from a Gaga fanboy, but I honestly can't think of anybody better qualified to pay tribute to Bowie. Thumbs up.

Yup, I thought so too. She's the only one out of today's current pop crop who could do a Bowie tribute and a) pull it off and b) make it seem like an authentic tribute to an artist she actually listened to. The Brit awards are coming up and they're going to do the same thing with a sort of "super group" that has attracted all kinds of criticism before its even happened. Because when you think "David Bowie" you think Damon Albarn (OK, cool), Bono (good), Noel Gallagher (yup, I'll take that), Coldplay (err...OK) and Adele (nope, nope, fucking nope). As cracking a voice Adele has, dunno about you but I've never heard an Adele song and thought "ah, a definite Bowie influence in there."

I'd still like to hear it though.
