Nip/Tuck. Glee. American Horror Story. Scream Queens. And now American Crime Story. You gotta admit, Ryan Murphy has one hell of a resume.
So American Crime Story: the People be OJ Simpson started a few weeks ago in the UK and its quickly becoming a rare breed; a "water cooler" show (people at work talk about it) that I actually watch. I know.
And it's great. Over here we had no real idea who OJ Simpson is, but he still became front page news with his getaway attempt etc. I knew him as Nordberg from the Naked Gun movies. That guy was a killer? Shiiiit.
So it's a familiar tabloid tale, but to find out the inner workings of what really happened is pretty damn fascinating. Cuba Gooding kills (ha) as OJ, and Travolta is the best he's been since Pulp Fiction. David Schwimmer does the seemingly impossible task of making the guy responsible for the Kardashian clan actually likeable. It's a strange case of a TV show where we all know the eventual outcome but can't wait to find out how it happens.
Anyone else watching this one?

I no longer have cable and it's not on Hulu or Netflix yet so no dice. It actually shows up on Hulu to add to my favorites, but the actual episodes aren't up yet which I assume means it's they'll be incoming soon. I remember what a fucking hullabaloo this shit was when it happened; when they interrupted the NBA Finals to show that stupid "chase" in his Bronco, the endless debates everywhere you went, the black kid running through the halls of my high school opening every classroom door to scream "OJ IS INNOCENT!" when they announced the verdict. I still don't get what the big deal was. People die horribly all the fucking time. Is it because it was an interracial couple and the accused was a celeb? I mean, OJ was really famous, but so are a lot of people who go to trial for ding horrible shit, but there's never been anything like that fucking trial.

Yeah, you need to hunt this show down whenever it becomes available on whatever platform it's on. They actually show the football game being interrupted, funnily enough. It really did seem to take over the entire country, and the show really does try to answer why..you're not far off with your guess.
No real spoilers or anything, but there are some superb little moments that really add play on modern day hindsight; David Schwimmer gives a stern lecture to his kids about the empty, hollowness of fame and celebrity.. to the Kardashian girls.
I don't know the difference between cable and normal US TV, but keep an eye out for this one.
