We've all got our own particular interests that mean we'll usually invest time in TV shows that have horror, superheroes, ghosts, blood and guts..all the good stuff. So an adult drama about love and family and shit? You'd be forgiven for maybe letting things like that slip by. It's my job to make you aware of two genuinely great shows that may not tick our particular boxes, but may create some new ones.
The Affair is a show about exactly what it sounds like; a story about two married couples ripped apart by the wife from one and the husband from the other couple meeting up and knocking boots. So far, so what. But it's actually a pretty intriguing concept; the story starts sometime in the future in a police station, with both parties being questioned about something we don't know yet. What's clever is the same story gets told from both perspectives, and there are always little differences in who's telling the story, from obvious stuff like what's said and how the other person is acting (in the guys version, the girl is always more flirtatious, more sexual and often wearing completely different clothes). Brilliantly acted and goes in all different kinds of directions. Well worth your time.

The second, "Togetherness", could be skipped for its fairly saccharine sounding title alone. That would be a mistake, because it's superb. Lighter in tone than the Affair, it's comedy drama about a group of forty somethings and their various hang ups/fuck ups. Always plausible and relatable and not some stupid "adults speak like 90's MTV because comedy" show like Cougar Town or some shit like that, it's funny, genuine and everyone in it is great. Sounds like some terrible sitcom, definitely is not.

That's two of my recommendations for shows you may have missed out on. Anything out there that's never been mentioned here that you think deserves some love?
