Instant classic. You ever have one of those instances when you play an album for the first time and it just instantly clicks with you? That happened to me this week. There's a second hand place near where I work. They deal with games, tablets, electronic goods and they also sell CD's. The prices are ridiculous, 20p a CD. I don't even know what that is in American money, a quarter? Most of the CD's are garbage; boybands, forgotten pop acts and X Factor acts, but there's occasional gold in there. And it's one of those acts where you go "oh, OK, those guys" and move on. But I decided at 20p it was worth a risk. I live dangerously. So, if you're like me, you've heard of these two. You know a few of the songs. You've seen the movie they soundtracked. But they've never crossed your paths, even though their most famous album is one of the biggest sellers of all damn time. And I got the remastered version for a stinking 20 pence. It's this. And I..LOVE it. I knew "Bridge Over Troubled Water", but had never actually heard it outside of it being murdered by idiots on reality shows. It's sublime. And I thought the whole album might be teary, "grand" ballads.. nope. Good time rock n roll abounds, with some effortlessly beautiful pop songs all through the album. It's one of those albums that you're sad to hear it end. Take a listen to this and tell me you don't love it already. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YNsZLtzF18So anyone else into Simon and Garfunkel? Am I late to the party here?

Quite. These guys are an inescapable timeless sensation. Family Guy did a whole episode that was practically a tribute to them a while back, a coworker and I coined the term "Garfunkely" to describe somebody who just looks off, and I've lost track of the number of times and names of the shows where some form of argument or reference to Simon vs. Garfunkel has broken out, they're so common. In fact, earlier today my sister took a video of her son at a T-ball game staring at the sky and spinning in circles instead of paying attention to the game and I suggested she add "The Sound of Silence" to it and post it online. Speaking of which, this is relevant to the Conor McGregror thread too: www.mma-core.com/videos/Conor_McGregor_The_Sound_of_Silence/10124272The funniest thing to come out that whole situation.I never thought I'd hear that dimwit Nate Diaz win an argument with anybody, but holy fuck did he have McG's number on that one. Say what you want about him, but Diaz's team are all killers and Conor's are "who the fuck are they?" Anyways, yeah, Simon an Garfunkel are awesome and rightfully ubiquitous music icons.

OK, I'm totally stealing "Garfunkely."
So I've been doing a bit of research and they don't really have that many albums, which I suppose is encouraging in that they're not some band with an enormous back catalogue to sift through. Anything worth avoiding though?

I've just got a three disc compilation so I haven't heard the original albums. Seems like you could hardly go wrong though.
