Figured I'd give this thread a couple of days to make sure everyone has had a chance to see it.
I went in with high hopes, certainly higher than normal when it comes to these things (even if I've seldom been burned by the MCU), but I'd heard nothing but five star glowing reports about Cap 3 (fuck it, Avengers 2.5) and I left the cinema satisfied.
First of all, the fight scenes were fantastic with some genuinely thrilling moments, and fucking GIANT MAN murked fools and it was stupendous. Spidey had a..interesting..origin (how did Tony Stark know who he was?) but at this stage Spider-Man desperately needs a new story, and I'm happy with this one. And damn, May. You fine.
One major bummer for me was Baron Zemo (or just Zemo here) being reduced to a generic "grieving = evil" character which robbed the Marvel movie franchise from one of THE classic villains. I'd put that right up with Iron Man 3's wretched use of the Mandarin as a completely wasted opportunity.
That being said, Civil War certainly didn't disappoint, and although it was lacking Hulk and Thor (but really, how could those two be in any kind of battle that wouldn't result in everyone being flat out dead?) it was still a fun ride with some great new characters. Excelsior.

Yeah, I agree all over. Much better than the comic version where they made guys like Stark and Mr. Fantastic totally hateable just so you'd root for Cap's side. This story made a lot more sense as both sides were given a lot of motives for doing what they did. Bravo. This one made way better use of Scarlet Witch and Vision than the last Avengers movie did and I absolutely love how Spidey's eyes change shape. Great casting on him too. Zemo was weird, man. Making him some little bitch whining about his family also made him toothless. Dude's supposed to be pure evil. Here we was just a token villain to distract from the fact that both sides had legitimate reasons to fight.

Yeah, Zemo deserved way more than being a token plot device to keep the story going. When you think of Captain America's villains, the Red Skull is first and Zemo is a close second, so this was a strange decision to make. Maybe they couldn't get the right look for a guy who pretty much wears purple underwear on his head?
