As I've mentioned before, I'm hunting down every Rolling Stones album to date, minus the billion live and compilation albums. Studio stuff only. One album that could easily slip past the casual fan would be this one. "Some Girls." I may be doing it a mis-service saying it could be easily passed by; it's widely regarded as one of their best and sold millions. Hey, hands up admission time - I'd never heard of it until recently. Sue me. Regardless, if you're into listening to the Stones beyond their Greatest Hits, "Some Girls" is a genuine classic. But what really makes it an essential purchase is the recent re-release. A deluxe 2 CD set, and often "deluxe" versions of albums are pointless live and remix tracks that you'll never listen to. When the Stones were recording this album, they had a whole bunch of songs in the can that didn't make the cut, and having to choose what songs were included and what weren't was like "cutting off your baby's head" (Keith Richards). So what we have now is essentially a double album. These bonus songs aren't just rough, forgotten demo's, these are songs just as good as what's on the finished album. There's a Keith Richards sung ballad on there that'll break your damn heart. So that's my recommendation for your next musical purchase. A five star record then, now and forever. What would YOU recommend?

Spotifyed. I only know like three of those songs so this should be a treat. As far as the Stones go, you're the expert so I couldn't recommend one for you to buy, but as far as music in general goes I'm back on Spotify premium so I'm tearing through half a dozen albums a night. It's all kind of a blur. I'm on a bit of a Prodigy/Joni Mitchell kick now, but I really latched onto Terminator X's solo album "Valley of the Jeep Beats", where he shows how fucking essential he was to Public Enemy's sound by teaming up with a different MC on each track and putting together a better and more cohesive album than PE themselves have done since he left. I'd say give that one a go.

Joni Mitchell, huh? Interesting. I'd bought a couple of her albums years ago after Prince namechecked her on a Sign O' the Times song. I'd very much recommend the "Blue" album. What do you think of the new Prodigy album? "Ibiza" featuring the Sleaford Mods is insane.
Yeah, that was badly worded, I meant what music would you recommend. Public Enemy are a group I've always read about but never actually played anything by.

Oh shit. Scratch that and buy Apocalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black instead. Amazing fucking album. Any of their first 4 constitute earth-shattering rap landmarks, but the first 3 are in serious need of a remaster. Actually, I just googled that and they have remastered It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet and released them as a set. Leaving out Yo, Bum Rush the Show is a fucking travesty, but consider them all musts if you're looking to hear some amazing hip hop.
The Day is My Enemy is killer, but my favorite is probably Invaders Must Die. Run with the Wolves is like the definitive anthem of badassery.

Okay, so gave it some listens. It's either the most rockin' country album ever or the countriest rock album. I know the Stones dabbled in country here and there, but Some Girls was full of it. I actually knew a lot of the songs from the 3-disc Hampton Coliseum Live in 1981 set, so that was cool. Just My Imagination is a way better cover than Satisfaction, and When the Whip Comes Down has crazy energy, and Miss You is just a stone classic. The only lame bit is Shattered, which was always my least favorite Stones song. It just sounds so aggressively bland and middle of the road vanilla, you know? Dull fucking tune. But even great albums are allowed one clunker.
