Oh, so you thought Captain America vs Iron Man was the big comic book movie battle? Pffft. Child's play.
THE battle for the ages? The most closely fought contest that no-one can pick a winner?
It's between Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad over which movie is the most hated. Place your bets for the winner, 'cos this one could go on all night.
Don't know if you've seen the negative press being hoisted upon Suicide Squad, but it makes for depressing reading. Myself and Mrs C were actually going to go see SS this weekend, something we didn't do for Bats v Supes. It looked fun, it looked different, and well, Harley Quinn y'all.
But nope, turns out that DC seem incapable of making a movie that critics and fans alike will love. One reviewer on the radio had been hyping it for months and was so disappointed that he didn't love it, he barely even liked it. The plot is all over the place (that will the hasty re-writes and extra scenes put in to make it funnier), the beyond hyped Jared Leto Joker gets barely any screen time. Most of the characters are forgettable. Harley is actually pretty annoying. Just.. fuck.
I expected Dawn of Justice to be bad. I really did have high hopes for this one.

It's a good movie. Not amazing and not as good as it could have been, but it was a fun time. Margot Robbie is just spectacular as Harley Quinn. Leto's Joker not so much, but that was hardly a surprise. My biggest complaint was the nonstop popular music. Almost American Graffiti-ish where for the first half of the movie every fucking scene is accompanied by a classic hit. See Star Trek Beyond? THAT'S how you use popular music in a film. Sparsely, but effectively. I don't see the point in blowing half the budget to have Paranoid, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Seven Nation Army, You Don't Own Me, Bohemian Rhapsody, Spirit in the Sky, and the rest of the who's who of most obvious possible old rock songs to use in a popular film. Great for trailers, but not to cram the entire film with.
Joker had way more screen time than he needed. Complaining he wasn't in SS enough is complete bullshit. Anybody saying that is a scrub like the people who complained that they didn't like Godzilla because Bryan Cranston wasn't in it enough. The Joker was the only character they knew and probably the only thing they went to see. He was lame and dominated the subplot, which dominated the main plot. Movie would have been better without him constantly distracting. Flashbacks would have sufficed. I'd bet money that the negative press is more about industry politics and possibly Disney buying bad publicity for the competition than anything pertaining to the movie itself. I would never trust a professional review in this day and age. Too much baggage and too easy to reach people and influence them.
