Come on, it wouldn't be a Your Verdict series if I wasn't a few days late. Cut me some slack, yo.
So the last two weeks have been very pop orientated, and we need something to cut through the sugar a bit. Although, ironic as it is, the last two radio friendly songs did nothing, and this hard rock song is currently doing big business on commercial radio. Go figure.
Usually I play an older song from a bands output, but I'm bucking the trend with a brand new single. Couple of reasons. It's a fucking BEAST of a song and it's a clear statement from the band that they're not going to be in the background any more, this is their Big Hit Record.
As diminished as rock music is in the charts right now, there are two bands really flying the flag, both of which actually come from Scotland. The first, Biffy Clyro, are stadium headliners who've had one of their singles plundered by the X Factor for their winners single and they just scored a number one album last month.

The second are on the cusp of that kind of breakthrough, and hopefully this new record does that. This band are Twin Atlantic.
I actually saw these guys years ago as part of some tiny indie festival thing, and they've built up a steady devoted fanbase ever since. And when you're sat listening to Mrs C's favourite radio station, chock full of pure pop sludge like Bieber, Rihanna etc etc, hearing THIS is like "what it feels like to chew 5 gum" adverts.
It's not reinventing the wheel or anything, in fact RATM could have put this out in 1998, but shit, "No Sleep" by Twin Atlantic is on the biggest commercial radio station in the country. Celebrate.
