Solo side projects. We've had a lengthy thread about those before, and usually a side-project sees the frontman/woman want to try something else while the band take a break. Sometimes though, it's the other equally important members who release solo records. Graham Coxon from Blur has released as many solo albums as his day job band have, Keith Richards has had a few good stabs at a few solo records and there's probably ten more that I can't think of right now. The one I AM thinking of is from an album that came out last year to good reviews if modest sales, that second part being something the band he's in don't experience much. That band? Right up there with my very favourites; Arcade Fire. And the gentlemen in question is bass guitarist (among other things) and younger brother of frontman Win Butler, Will Butler. (Just in case you forgot which one he is). So his debut album is a Talking Heads inspired 80's art-rock album, notably different to Arcade Fire's output. Even though he's not the frontman in Arcade Fire, you wouldn't know it here, as "Policy" is a bold, loud beast, and this video, "Anna", all yelping falsetto's and stuttering, sexy beats is a genuine surprise. And, if nothing else, there's Emma Stone dancing through a boat in a white dress. What more could you ask for? www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QFvgHIJrEQ

Wow. If that video had come out in the '80s or '90s, we'd still be talking about it as a true classic. Booth the vid and the music have that true timeless "this will always look and sound great" quality to it. And how is Emma Stone not the biggest thing in Hollywood? That woman just exudes otherworldly charm in everything she does.
