Three weeks to go, even though I'm pretty sure I've missed a week here or there, but that's life in the fast lane, yo.
The tradition for these series usually is, or at least the plan is, to have a pure pop HIT in among the indie bands and more unknown songs. So for every Urusei Yatsura there's a Britney video, or Madonna sitting alongside Bis.
And so, here's a song from one of those modern pop names that seem to clog up the charts, usually with complete shit. Ne-Yo, Usher, Rihanna, Drake, Beyonce.. y'know. All those fuckers. And part of me hates that not only do I not mind this song, not only do I not quite like this song.. Dwellers, I fucking LOVE this song. I confess.
And it's surprising, because this generation of pop stars really doesn't interest me at all. Music aside, today's pop bunch are all "artists" so different in actual creativity to the actual artists and pop-stars who came before them (an army of songwriters, producers and agents is a world removed from, say, someone like Prince), and so I'm usually completely turned off from the lot of them. There are exceptions (Lady Gaga and Sia take pure pop and mix in weird visuals and showbiz glam, as well as actual writing and singing talent), but this will possibly be the first and last time we ever discuss this guy.
That's Jason Derulo to you, and he's had his fair share of fucking APPALLING songs, we're talking genuine crimes against music, and so when I first heard "Want You to Want Me" I was kind of surprised that I didn't hate it. I was annoyed when I heard it again and liked it and then pretty damn embarrassed when I loved it and bought it.
But come on. Try and not love that chorus. And isn't he JUST a dreamboat?
