So yeah, some old timey famous actress wins a Golden Globe and naturally she decides it's time to show off her prodigious intellectualism by talking politics. This will end well. She started off pointing out that making fun of the disabled isn't nice and then moved onto foreigners and sports.

Yeah, Trump! If you kick out foreigners and "outsiders" (whatever the fuck that means), Hollywood be even more white and you'll have to watch sports and stuff instead! I'm really good at playing pretend and that makes me the bestest at smarting too! BOOM! TAKE THAT! [drops the mic].

Mel Brooks' Nazi-centric joke about no "fags" and jews meaning no theater decades ago was more on point and a fuck of a lot funnier. I think this idiot was trying to be serious. But anyways, that's not even the point. The proceeding stream of butthurt from sports fans has been just as stupid. Look, guys, she said "THE arts", not "art". "The arts" in that context means music, theater, literature, film, etc, are individual expression-based which serve a very different function than sports, which are competition-based.

She wasn't dissing MMA or football, she's just too fucking stupid and arrogant to think about what she's going to say and how she's going to come off because she's so used to the adulation that comes with being a celebrity of her caliber. And yeah, it's moronic and ignorant as fuck that out of all the sports in the world, she names the one that is primarily made up of international athletes, but try and show a little bit of literacy on your part, yeah? Somebody else saying something stupid doesn't have to be an invitation to a "top this" contest ever time.

Is that what he thinks groveling is? Jesus Christ, add illiteracy to Trumps list of faults. And as it ever been an effective rebuttal to anything to call somebody overrated? Seriously? Even once? Have you ever had somebody criticize a shitty thing you did or said and responded, "Oh yeah! Well you're overrated!" and felt like you took the high ground in that exchange? This is why we can't have nice things, America. Every dumb remark from a famous person becomes a feedback loop of stupidity where there is literally no right side to be on. This is our world now.

I mean.. I agree with Streep that Trump is a prick, but bringing up the disabled guy thing? Fuck, when did that happen again? He was an asshole for doing it, that much we all know.. but, you know.. and?

I just think it's amazing we live in a world now where THAT is the most powerful man on the planet, a guy sitting throwing out Twitter jabs at an actress who said mean (if true) things about him. What even is going on? It's like the Queen coming on Facebook and calling people faggots. It's just fucking baffling that this is normal procedure now. A reality star has become President and the world is now a social media platform.

God, now I want the Queen to get a Twitter account. I actually put this in this section because I was just going to talk about the MMA thing, but when I researched it a little more, I found all of the other bullshit and it turned into a rant about how stupid the world is so now it belongs in Hot Topics. It just really pisses me off that these people are so self-enamored that they can accept an award for being good at playing pretend or pointing cameras at people playing pretend and think it's a call to state the obvious as if we're all blind and deaf and it's up to them to change the fucking world. On the other side, I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that read "Luck Fiberals". I don't know if you can crack that intricately conceived code, but the guy who made it decided to help you out with little arrows telling you to swap the first letters of each word. Isn't he clever to come up with such an elite and original concept? And so humble that he thinks of us, the poor ignorant common man, and give us the code right there so that we too may bask in his intellectual glory too. Wouldn't want such a brilliant and innovative opinion to fly over our poor little heads, right? God, we're fucked.

One of my biggest frustrations when it comes to celebrity is just this. These are people who are paid to play pretend, as Trashcanman says, and they think that any of us give a shit what they have to say about politics or world events? Because they're such experts on these things in the first place, right? If you're a great actor and you make entertaining movies, congratulations, here's my money, take it and go make all the girls laugh on your Yacht in the Caribbean. Release a terrible rap album and do all the drugs you want. But stop talking fucking politics.

The irony in all this is that football, at least, is on its way to being just as immersed in this bullshit as Hollywood is. If Meryl Streep had a brain she'd realize that NFL players are probably the best people to get her message out after her and her Hollywood friends.

As for the meatheads who are offended, that's disappointing too. You can't say a bad thing about anyone anymore without everyone crying about it. And it's not just that, but the seriousness of it all. If you said "People who like Michael Bay movies are idiots" 10 years ago the worst that would've happened is someone might have been all, "But Armageddon, bro!" Now if you said it, it's "That's so disrespectful to all the Michael Bay fans out there. Do you realize how many people you just insulted? Do you realize how many successful movies he's made? You just put your ignorance on display. You need to apologize." Obviously I'm being a little facetious, but just barely. I'm so tired of this shit.
