Okay so Netflix's latest once again came out of nowhere and gave us a whole new kind of awesome we didn't even know we needed. I had no idea what this show was about, but I discovered once again that if you slap Drew Barrymore's face on anything, I will make the sweetest of love to it. I've literally been infatuated with that woman since E.T. (chill, we're the same age) and after this show I think it's worse than ever. Even after watching her paint an entire room with vomit. It's a strange show to get into because the tones clash like crazy. It's like the cast of Full House starring in a Hostel film in character. It's got this corny white suburban ideal vibe complete with wacky neighbors, but on the flipside it's this insanely dark horror premise (basically Return of the Living Dead 3 meets Desperate Housewives) and the cast takes it so in stride that it's almost like a whole new genre of comedy. Actual line accompanying this pose as car approaches our heroes disposing of a victim's remains: "Act casual" Give it a shot. Like Scream Queens, I can't say it's for everybody, but if you've got a sick goddamn sense of humor it's definitely worth a look.

It's odd how much weight someone who I've never actually met carries in the Curmudgeon household, but true story here; we were flicking through Netflix and this show popped up, I mentioned that Trashy had said it was good (I read but didn't comment yet) and that was enough to justify a watch.
So here we are. Only one episode in and yeah it's.. odd. It's a little too sitcom-y, with the sassy daughter and really fucking camp husband, but it turns the standard format on it's head in a fun way, and Drew Barrymore is, as she was, is and will always be, adorable. She's went from babyface doll to hot minx teen to Super MILF right before our eyes.
I actually read some reviews from Wikipedia, and the reviews are fucking baffling. They liked the characters, they liked the setting and the tone.. but were put off by the gore? What the fuck? She's a ZOMBIE. What do you think is going to happen?
But yeah, good call, Trash. We are on board.

They pushed the gore way further than they needed to, but things like that is what made the show so unexpectedly awesome. Why halfass it with anything less than extremes? If you're going to do that shit, DO THAT SHIT. Extreme sitcom camp combined with extreme gore is pretty much a first, unless you count maybe Peter Jackson's Dead Alive/Brain Dead, which is great company to be in.
I haven't bothered with reviews. Too much money changes hands and at this point, I trust nobody but myself and people whose taste I've confirmed. I had no idea if you'd dig it or not. My tastes trend towards weird, and weird by definition isn't for everyone. But I figure worst case scenario somebody doesn't think it's all that great, but when you find that show that is all that great, it's totally worth it. And Netflix has more of those shows than anyone right now so why not.
