Wow. The Lou Reed thing was kind of meh, but I might actually buy a Metallica/Gaga album. Who knew the girl could thrash too? They've done this kind of thing before where they duet with some pop princess and a metal band (Christina Aguilera and Limp Bizkit come to mind), but shockingly Gaga actually looks like she belongs there. I'm not sure you can fake that kind of enthusiasm. Check out Oprah at about 19:50 of this video for my favorite example of trying to look like you give a fuck about music you clearly don't get.
Metallica's new album has its moments for sure, but I wonder how fucking great they'd be with some fresh blood on vocals. Hetfield's voice has become kind of mockable since the Black Album and Gaga rally fucking killed this performance. When she stage dove and then landed back on the stage in a badass pose with catlike grace, I seriously wonder if they didn't plant a group of people up front there and rehearse that, as unlikely as it seems. The woman is just a fantastic performer. Anybody else feeling this collaboration?

Wow. I'd heard about this and kind of dismissed it off hand but... yeah, it actually works. Gaga's vocal chops are no surprise, although I wasn't sure how it'd work on a pure rock record but she pulls it off (and looks fucking amazing doing it too). The Lou Reed thing, which I've only heard bits of, was poorly received by Metallica fans but I think time will look upon it more fondly (Bowie said it'll be remembered as a masterpiece one day.. not sure I'd go THAT far), but I think a Metallica/Gaga album could rejuvenate and reintroduce the band to a whole new audience. God bless that girl.

Who would expect to see Metallica in the Grammys at all in this day and age? To be fair to Reed, I haven't heard the album and perhaps it's this amazing high-concept album that goes deeper than the initial quick listen of one song and dismissal I gave it, but Bowie has been a Reed nuthugger for his entire career too so I don't know that even his opinion will make me change my mind when there's so much music out there that interests me more.

I secretly kind of liked this too. I remember reading a year or two ago that Lady Gaga asked Iron Maiden if she could hang with them on tour, so she served as groupie on their bus for a week. Apparently this isn't an act and she really is a metalhead at heart.

Yeah, who'da thunk? A coworker of mine was raging because apparently the Grammys didn't even announce Metallica live, they just said it was Lady Gaga, as though the nearly 100 million records selling/Rock and Roll Hall of Famers/world wide legends were just her new backing band. And apparently, Hetfield's mic wasn't turned on until halfway through the song too. I guess they must have spliced his vocals in after the fact for the video I posted.
