Believe it or not, but I actually have a plan set out for these weekly music series. I compile a little list of what's going to go where, but you know what? That's all out of the window this week, and you can thank annoying copyright laws for it.
I had originally planned for this video to be played the last time around I did this series, but the video just did not exist on YouTube or the internet in general. Even just the track itself, without a video, was nowhere to be found, and any mention of it "had been removed" by the label. But I did a quick search and noticed they're all back up again, so I figured now was as good a time as any. Make hay while the sun shines, and all that.
So we're taking a trip back to the 90's for this one, and even though it was released around the same time as the whole Britpop explosion, it's a mile removed from anything Blur or Oasis were putting out. And even though some of the Britpop also-ran's music hasn't aged well (Shed Seven, yeesh), this still sounds as effortlessly beautiful and soulful as ever.
Coming from a fairly bitter split with beloved UK band Suede and another split from, well, not so beloved group Thieves, McAlmont and Butler formed a fairly unlikely duo to create one of the best received albums of the decade. Pairing Butler's rock guitar with David McAlmont's three octave singing voice created something that sounded classic but still contemporary. They only released one album before going their separate ways and reuniting one more time seven years later before going quiet again, "Yes" is all about Butler's split from Suede, and has there ever been a better middle finger than this one?

(Let's just hope the video is still there by the time you read this)
