So I'm back from holiday so the pause button on this series can be taken off and the ball can start rolling again. There's really no major introduction needed for this week's band, they're not some little known cult band or some band who really only broke the UK. They're, well, one of the biggest selling bands of all time. It's Fleetwood Mac, y'all. Now, you might think "well, duh, obviously I'm going to like this. If you're playing one of their timeless radio classic hits, who's going to down-vote that?" Ah-ha, but.. I'm not doing that. I'm not going to fish for easy "likes", Facebook style, by playing "Dreams" or "Go Your Own Way." I'm going to play.. gasp, NEW Fleetwood Mac. It'd be easy to dismiss a legacy act like Fleetwood Mac's new material as not being as good as their old stuff. Like Homer Simpson watching Bachman Turner Overdrive, "no talking, no new crap, TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS." But here's the thing; the following song, recorded just a few years ago, could sit comfortably alongside any of FM's back catalogue. So, re-introduction; this isn't THAT Fleetwood Mac, it's THIS Fleetwood Mac. They may be older with more snow on the roof, but if "Sad Angel", a track from an EP of all new material, is anything to go by, those tunes certainly haven't changed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=18sUw6Ele2U

Guardians 2 gave me the notion that there needs to be an Oscar for Best Use of Fleetwood Mac. Nicks' voice just ain't what it used to be, but creativity doesn't die so easily. A good song is a good song. I haven't heard their stuff since the reunion, and this isn't something that I'd just sit politely and quietly through if they played it live between the likes of Rhiannon and Gypsy. It's got a great energy to it.

This is as good a thread as any to discuss it, but what did you think of GotG 2? I liked it, and Marvel continue to make unfilmable characters, well, film-able. Ego the Living Planet? And Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet? Take all of my money. Baby Groot was edging on just too cutesy-poo for my liking, but they didn't stuff him down our throats gladly.
Anyway, what Fleetwood Mac song was on there?

The Chain. It played while Star Lord was battling Ego at the climax and the music was as bizarre a choice for a fight scene as the lyrics were relevant to the characters. Just outstanding. The film was at least as good as the first and that is a hell of an accomplishment. Amazingly creative take on Ego too, although I'm kind of pissed he never talked in full planet face. That would have been epic.
