We recently had a bit of a spring-clean in the Curmudgeon household, and we both cleared out a huge number of old clothes we no longer wore or were just past their best. Plus we knew we would buy a shit-load of new stuff in Florida and needed the space.
And buy we did. And among the more "grown-up" stuff I got, I bought a bunch of shirts with bands etc on them. And going through them all today.. shit, it's like I'm stuck in a time-warp.
To quote a Bis song, "I'm no pro-retro know-all", I don't buy "retro" stuff for the hell of it or to look "cool" or whatever. But check this out;
A "Psycho" t-shirt, of the Bates house in black and white. Source material - 57 years old. A "Blues Brothers" t-shirt. Source material - 37 years old. An Andy Warhol t-shirt, photo taken around 1975. Source material - 42 years old. A Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" t-shirt. Source material - 51 years old. A "Beatles come to America!" t-shirt. Source material - 53 years old. A Godzilla original movie t-shirt. Source material - 53 years old.
Aaand you get the idea. That's added to my Bowie, Prince, Velvet Underground ones and you're looking at a guy who's either in his 60's or who seriously needs to, I dunno, modernise or something. Hell, the closest I got was a Beavis and Butt-Head shirt, and I only got it because it was old-school artwork with the "classic" MTV logo. Still over 20 years old.
Are you in the same boat with this sort of thing?

Wow, a Beavis and Butthead shirt? You'd be cock of the fucking walk. Around these parts it's all retro Marvel Comics shirts like Secret Wars and the like these days. I've got my share of Jaws and Godzilla tees along with Clash, Ramones, Who, and Stones regalia, but I've also got some modern anime shirts, a few gaming ones, and a Game of Thrones one to boot so it's not all ancient history. So I strongly approve of the past, but it's not my sole obsession.

Yeah I'd never seen a B&B shirt either. Proper old school drawings as well, only one on the rack. Insta-buy.
I don't think I LIKE anything enough that's new or current that I'd wear a shirt of it, though, and the more I think about it the more it bugs me. A Game of Thrones shirt could work, I suppose. I've never really seen one I like, but I could be up for that. I've got a wrestling shirt of a current guy, so I suppose that counts. I actually binned a few modern bands who's shirts I bought at the gig who kind of went to shit and broke up. Classic band shirts don't have that danger.
Hmmm. This will be something I'll have to work on, I think.
