DIGITALLY REMASTERED!
For me right now, there are no sweeter words on a CD case. I've started buying into older bands (the Smiths, Simon and Garfunkel to be exact) as well as re-buying older albums that now have shiny remasters available, and before I make that all essential "BUY NOW" finger click, I'm making sure that shit sounds new.
Tricky road to go down, because a lot of remasters piss off a lot of fans. The David Bowie "Ziggy Stardust" album had a 2011 remaster that most fans despised, as it omitted a few notes from various songs, one that actually helped one track blend into the other, it messed with the volumes of the vocals and.. well, who wants that? There was a remastered series of Rolling Stones albums from 2009 that fans hate because the sound is muddy and not as crisp as the older version, but the new, NEW remaster fixes all of that. It's a headfuck.
So this is where I am. I've bought the superb Prince 4 disc reissue of Purple Rain, but that was a given, but I'm now buying albums I already own to try and get the superior sound quality. And in some cases it's an essential buy; the remaster of Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys sounds fantastic, genuinely like it was recorded yesterday. But some are completely unnecessary (does "Send Away the Tigers", a Manic Street Preachers album from 10 years ago, really need a remaster? Nope).
So what about you? Do you buy into this sort of thing? Is it worth it?

It just depends. For me, I often can't really tell the difference because I listen to music in so many different ways over the course of a day and I'v never really bothered doing comparisons as I seldom rebuy albums, but if you're big into vinyl or headphones, it can make a big difference. Some albums don't need a remaster and are just blatant cash grabs, and others were recorded so shitty that no amount of remastering can really bring them up to snuff. Personally, I can't financially justify buying the same albums over and over, but I'll admit that when I see an older album I've wanted to hear come out with a special remastered edition, I'm all over it.
