Memories can't really be trusted, because unless something really traumatic happened, we tend to focus more on the good stuff. So if we think back to school, we forget the daily grind, the homework, the acne, the puberty and just remember the fun times.
One thing though that I think I can say isn't just rose-tinted glasses is the TV shows we used to watch as kids. They obviously don't hold up now, but back then. Kids TV was the shit. All-time classics like Thundercats, He-Man, Turtles, Defender's of the Earth.. it didn't get better.
I was never a Saturday morning cartoon kid, my kids TV was after school. Get home, watch cartoons, from the young fun stuff like Inspector Gadget to more, ahem, "adult" drama stuff like the school soap Grange Hill. I loved all of it.
And I get that times change, but how depressing is this? According to a recent report, in the last six years 70% of British kids no longer watch television, they just watch Youtube. The kids channels are now online only, and they still don't watch them. Kids TV shows and even the presenters introducing the shows themselves were parts of every kids life.. and they pretty much barely exist now.
Le sigh. Isn't that depressing?

It seems like Nickelodeon is doing all right, but I know pretty much every other kids' network is doing pretty shitty these days. I really don't get the appeal of these adult Youtubers who act like fucking morons on camera and get millions of kids watching them do nothing for hours on end every day. It absolutely baffles me and mark my words, we will see the stupidest generation in modern history because of it. Those old cartoons we loved were shitty, but at least they made an effort to give us basic storytelling elements and simple values. Youtube is an absolute wasteland of vapid emptiness.
