If ever the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover" was true, it's certainly in the case of the Netflix original movie, "Okja." Because you see that and you think "awww", and imagine some fluffy kawaii type movie about a cute giant pig. The trailer seems to indicate it, so I can only imagine the traumatised youngsters who watched this to see the adorable cuddly beast. Because fuck me, this gets HEAVY. I'm not sure if qualifies as Kaiju, in that there's no supersized monsters trashing buildings, but there is a giant mutant pig running around Tokyo smashing through shops and wrecking cars. Does that count? Anyway, for those of you who have Netflix who maybe passed this one by expecting a cutesy kiddie movie, it is certainly worth a look. Great mixed cast of American and Asian actors, among some fairly heavy handed slapstick is a dark satire on corporate mass marketing and human nature's blind consumerism ("if it's cheap, they'll eat it"), but it's also, maybe, a vegetarian message or at least a message to think what you're eating and who you're giving your money to. Anyways, check it out.

Would have passed on it for sure, but I'll give it a try now. Actually sounds like it might my kind of thing, cute cuddly creature and all. As far as veggie propaganda goes, it's got to be better than Fast Food Nation.
