We go from a fairly minor biopic that needed some introduction, to a film that really shouldn't need any introduction, in that it is, literally, the biggest movie of all time. Yes, you read that correctly, it's the Biggest Movie of All Time. It's Avatar. It seems strange that a science fiction extravaganza and multi billion dollar box office attraction is in a category known for movies that went under the radar in here. But, really, for as big as it was, as successful as it was.. no-one ever talks about it. When something hits mainstream attention and becomes part of our daily online lives (think, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Breaking Bad) they're EVERYWHERE and they stick around. How many memes have you seen with Samuel L Jackson's Jules from Pulp Fiction? Right off the bat I can think of 3, and they're from the same damned scene. ("Say what again, "English motherfucker do you speak it" and "does he look like a bitch?" How many memes have you ever seen regarding Avatar? How many lines of dialogue do you see regurgitated and parroted back on tv shows and online? How many characters can you name? Why IS that? And as much as I enjoyed Avatar the first time around, I had zero interest in seeing it again, and it was only last month that I finally re-watched it. And I don't know why, but I have no interest in any of the sequels. Are you the same?

I really enjoyed Avatar and bought the extended DVD and all that, but it was pretty derivative so it hasn’t really resonated with people. And it’s a huge tragedy to me that James Cameron has chosen to commit himself so utterly to the franchise. He’s such a talented filmmaker and as much as I enjoyed the film, I really don’t see the point of the sequels.
