Come in Spice Girls; your time is up.Comeback: It's been THE word of 2007, hasn't it, true believers? Acts big and small, both beloved and forgotten, have decided to sing the songs that brought them to the dance in the first place, to cast aside petty in-band squabbles from long ago and give the fans what they want. So, Led Zeppelin - are back! Take That - are back! Rage Against The Machine - are back! Smashing Pumpkins - are back! Kind of. And now The Spice Girls - are back. Just what absolutely no one wanted. At least, that's what I assumed would be the case. But check it out - every ticket for their comeback tours sold out in mere minutes. Why, the world must be gagging for more. And certainly the five girls will be gagging for more money and more exposure and column inches than they've had in years. Geri Halliwell hasn't released a record since her last dive-bombed, Emma Bunton's last album didn't break the top 60, nor did Mel C's (self-financed) effort, Victoria is.. well, glossy magazine idiot fodder at best, famous for nothing nowadays. And Scary? I doubt she remembers the words "hit" and "record" can actually go in the same sentence. But the truth will out - and those tickets that sold out so quickly appear to have been snapped up by the very scum of the earth - that's ticket touts to you and me - and now they're practically having to give them away on eBay, at a quarter of the original price they paid for them. Quite simply the best news that can come from this whole debacle, really. Nothing beats seeing a tout get shafted. And what of THIS song, "Headlines", the big comeback single that was supposed to bring in another era of, ahem ahem, "Girl Power?" Well, it sucks. Not in a "oh well, it's not great" kind of way, but in a "dear God, is that IT?" kind of way. It's beyond boring. Bland squared, and just a chore to sit through. You'd think a bit more EFFORT would have been put into pop's biggest comeback, wouldn't you? Well, the Spice's didn't, and the sales reflected the song - dismal. Remember, this was the OFFICIAL song for the annual suckfest that is Children In Need, and it's been a long tradition for pop acts to jump upon the CIN bandwagon for an almost guaranteed number one hit. And so the Spice Girls tried.. and failed, with Headlines becoming the least successful Children In Need single EVER, not scoring number one - or even hitting the top ten. Might I add that I was actually a bit of a fan of the Spice Girls first time around. As plastic as Barbie Dolls, sure, but they brought a sense of fun back into pop music, and the people who pulled their respective strings did it very well indeed, capturing the imagination of pretty much everyone who liked pop records. Time hasn't been kind, of course. AFter a string of failed solo careers, this latest big bucks venture will not only see the very end of the Spice Girls, it will sour and taint a very impressive legacy, not just of chart positions, but of pretty decent pop singles too. It would be a shame if this were a comeback from the heart, but it's perfectly clear that this comeback (which some, especially Sporty, didn't even want to do) was all about cash. Well, you made some for yourselves, girls - pity you couldn't have scraped up some more for those kids in need, hmm? Here are tonight's Headlines, girls: No One Cares Anymore. The Spice Girls debut album was a solid pop album through and through. The followup not so much. But some of us are glad to see they are back again. There is a lot of music out that i can't stand, but i don't make it a point in my life to ruin it for the people who enjoy it. Go listen to whatever music makes you happy, and don't click on the stuff that turns you off.

Yeah, jerk, don't go confusing mindless retards with the truth! The first time I met my wife she was singing "Wannabe" so the Spice Girl's career is worth at least one fond memory for me. "A very impressive legacy" is waaaaaay overdoing it, though. These ladies were the prototype for Simon Cowle's numerous atrocities against the music industry and their career is only impressive in the same sense that Hitler's rise to power was: in the "how could anybody have let this happen" sense. Goodtime bubblegum pop princesses or harbingers of the terrible pop music apocalypse we are currently suffering through? You decide.

I never cared for this band Curmy. As far as girl-group led *pop* Girls Aloud and Sugababes produce much better music than the Spicers who were only slightly more bearable than B*Witched.

Sugababes have released some third rate dreck in their time (too many dull ballads), but crappy Children In Need covers aside (I'll Stand By You - ugh - and the almost criminal Walk This Way), Girls Aloud have got a pretty much perfect record of decent singles. Which they've broken records with (17 top ten hits in a row). Jesus Christ - why do I KNOW this shit?

Post twice? I didn't post twice. Something must be wrong with your feeble brain, Wolfman.

Why would you say that no one care anymore about them when they have had to add so many more shows to thier world tour because they sell out within minutes. I tried to get tickets. It was VERY hard. They have had so many fans all over the world. honestly the music out there today SUCKS! I dont even listen to the radio anymore unless it is jazz. a greatest hits cd of the girls music, with 2 brandnew songs in classic Spice Girl style, is a great refreshing burst of music. I got my copy of the greatest hits at victorias secret, and even the girl behind the counter said 'yes!!! I love this cd, its all I have been listening to!'.

Oh, well - who am I to argue with the girl behind the counter?
The tickets sold out so quickly for one simple reason - touts. Absolute scum of the earth they are, no doubt about it - and THEY are the reason big, highly hyped gigs sell out in minutes.
Of course there are going to be genuine, tragic fans like yourself - but of all those tickets that were sold, how many do you think ended up on ebay?
And your comment about the "music of today being garbage" and then putting the SPICE GIRLS as some beacon of hope is.. well, mind-blowing. Yes, their original singles were fun, but are you honestly telling me they're ever going to produce something like that now? This new single is junk, and if they're output before they split was anything to go by ("Holler", for example - ugh!) they had lost it back then too.
If 10 year old Greatest Hits by five fame hungry idiots is your bag, knock yourself out. But GOOD, new music is out there - you just have to know where to look. And two "brand new songs in classic Spice Girl style" ain't it.

I don't think I'd trust the musical tastes of Victoria's Secret cashiers.

Um, the Spice Girls rule and rock! I saw them on The Return Of The Spice Girls tour 3 times and Headlines was sung beautifully. And trashcanman, Simon Cowell had nothing to do with the Spice Girls, they were managed by Simon Fuller. I don't think people should be spazzing out over this single, bottom line, this song is exactly what a die-hard like me wanted from them. A true fan adores this song; Spice Girls aren't doing this for the haters anyway, so I think this single was a success as it pleased me!

ORIGINAL COMMENT FROM AMAZON.COM
I always have hard time to comprehend why people comment on things they intensely abhor. It's perfectly okay to say that the single did not meet the expectations or it failed miserably, or even it was crap but then this review section asks you to comment on the single. It is not a platform to throw up all your hatred for The Spice Girls. If you do not like them, simple avoid any item related to them. If you like them (or even if you are neutral) but did not enjoy the new single, we welcome your opinion. We do not need a whole page of denunciation to get your point.

As usual the review, and the hopeless & obtuse responses to it, brightened my day.
My favorite quote from a Spice Girls fan, ever: "...honestly the music out there today SUCKS! I dont even listen to the radio anymore unless it is jazz..." That is pure gold!
