Well, who'd have thunk it? Your friend and humble narrator The Irresponsible Hate Monger - went to see the new Harry Potter film last week (and indeed, own all the other films on DVD) and just twenty minutes ago, lined up among 1000 other people at midnight for the final book to go on sale. What IS the world coming to?
Actually, to be honest, its more my wife than me. I've read all the books, seen all the films but.. you know.. Spider-Man they ain't (in both senses). Still, it is nice to see kids reading actual books again, as well as seeing people who would never actually even think of putting their nose in something that didn't contain glossy pictures of Paris Hilton shopping actually reading too.
So yes - I am a Harry Potter fan. I don't think it needs to be said of course, if we are to discuss the new book here, spoilers will NOT be tolerated.
Feel free to confess your love for children's literature here. Anyone else filling the bulging coffers of JK? Or are you sick of the sight of the scarred-headed little cock?

"Snape kills Dumbledore! Snape kills Dumbledore!" youtube.com/watch?v=ossbPGIVikU The ending to that video always gets me. ;D There's a similiar video for the new book featuring an asshole standing on his car with a megaphone shouting spoilers at a vocally horrified crowd, (funny stunt, but the man is probably going to go to hell) but I must respect our host's wishes and not post it here. I enjoy the films, but my wife is so into the books and movies that it's almost literally the only thing she will read or watch. If I had more free time I would read the books, but I've waved farewell to fantasy literature having forgotten more than a healthy person will ever read. Plus, I just don't have the time anymore; one of my hobbies had to go and (for now) novels have had to be replaced with the less time-consuming comic book. I am happy that people are reading books other than what Oprah Winfrey tells them too, but let's hope this holds true now that Harry's story is ended.

I'm with the Curmudgeon on this one - anything that gets kids using their brains instead of snorting celeb gossip like mindless crack whores is A Good Thing in my book.
As for the films, I think they're really good - particularly the last two.. I must confess that I've not read the books - mostly deliberately, in that I now don't want to be sitting in the cinema huffing because something is slightly different from the book.
Toodles!
