I no longer fear Hell.
For I have heard Trashcanman sing.
Man, that drumming game looks like my personal nightmare. I hate drumming at the best of times, drumming while flashing lights fly before your eyes sounds like an LSD trip gone wrong.
"Looks like fun?" HELL NO!

If there's one thing I found out after living this past year at college, it's that Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band can be found around practically every corner in every dorm building. People bringing down televisions and gaming systems to play these games in my building's lobby late into the night was a pretty common occurrence, the launch days for both GH3 and RB this past fall seemed to be a slightly bigger deal around those parts than any nationally recognized holiday, and the premiere airing of the Guitar Hero-themed episode of South Park had roughly 50 people crowded around the lobby television. Crazy stuff.
I've tried my hand at Guitar Hero on more than one occasion and I honestly don't think it's a game I'll ever learn how to play. I'm not much of a gamer in the first place, and getting down the technique for playing that game seems like it would take fucking forever for me. Maybe if it was something I really had a passion for learning, but if that were the case then I think it'd probably be more sensible for me to learn how to play a real guitar. Of course, I'm too lazy to learn either one, so it's moot.
Now, the drumming on Rock Band does look like fun to me, and it even looks like something I might reasonably be able to learn how to do. Despite being surrounded by GH/RB for the past school year, I've actually never tried playing the RB drums for myself. Would you say it'd be easier to get the hang of than the guitar/bass controls?
You also mention playable tracks by Metallica being available for download on RB. Out of curiosity, which songs are those? I know that "One" comes standard on Guitar Hero III and "Enter Sandman" is on Rock Band from the get-go, but the prospect of drumming to more Metallica certainly sounds appealing in my book.

Metallica Pack "Ride the Lightning" "Blackened" "And Justice for All"
Sweet, no? Drumming on "Blackened" would be awesome, but I'm clinching my teeth and upholding my Metallica imbargo. They've got 3 sweet Sabbath tracks too ("NIB", "War Pigs", "Sweet Leaf") but I've also got an Ozzy embargo relating to the Iron Maiden debacle a few years back so that's another no-go. I've had fun with The Police though!
A lot of people can't do the drums for Rock Band, but if you've got any rhythm whatsoever I don't think it'll be a problem. Guitar Hero came really natural to me, but it is actually easier to play some of those songs on an actual guitar than it is to play them on the harder difficulties on the game. Note that GH3 picks up difficulty-wise where GH2 left off so it is a game really meant for series veterans. Try playing bass on Rock Band co-op first. That should ease you into the controls. But don't be an ass like me and torture other people with your singing. I pretty much only did that for the sake of the awesome demo-video I'd envisioned and "Epic" is one of the very few songs I can sing and play at the same time. I didn't think it was THAT bad until I uploaded it and heard it as full volume. A thousand apologies, but my intentions were good.

I just imagine a whole new generation of people who will think they're rock gods after completing the Guitar Hero games (I was going to say Trilogy, but isn't there four now?) and then picking up an actual guitar and wondering where the buttons are.

Na. I've never really followed South Park. If I catch it on I usually watch it but I couldn't call myself a fan or anything.

South Park: one of my favorite shows. There will be five GH games (not counting the 80's rock expansion) after GH:Aerosmith (yay!) and GH4 come out. GH4 will have it's own drum kit -which looks way cooler than the RB one I shelled $80 for (DOH!)- and will apparently have a create-your-own-music feature. I've not the cash or space for another damn drum kit so screw that, but I'll definitely check the game out since I've already got a compatible guitar. Is it really a "Guitar Hero" game if you play drums and sing on it? And anybody who thinks they are something special for playing a video game will most likely die never knowing the touch of a woman.

Wow, is there an Aersosmith version coming out? That's pretty cool. I can only imagine trying to play Eat The Rich or something.
I went on the Aerosmith rollercoaster in Florida, and it was awesome, but then I learned someone DIED on it a few weeks after us. And we're going back next year. I wonder if they changed the seat...?

youtube.com/watch?v=YRsULO1rHR8There's also talk of negotiations for a Beatles version. Seems like this one would have been a good place to debut the drum and vocals features, but whatever, I'm buying it. There is no greater American rock band than Aerosmith.

I can't imagine a Beatles version being that hard. Isn't there stuff pretty straight forward to play?

Most of it, but it's THE BEATLES! If it happens, I'm sure the drums and vocals features would be included as well. A lot of people would buy it just to sing the songs. I would (if I could sing that is). I hear the Aerosmith one will be taking the difficulty down a notch anyway. They couldn't have made it any harder than 3 without losing some fans, that's for sure.

Imagine trying to sing some Aerosmith songs?! Take "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" (Not one of thier best, but I know it'll be on there) - imagine hitting those high notes at the end!

Hey Trashy, since you're a Guitar Hero player and I know you just love everything that Metallica puts out nowadays, I figured this would pique your interest: www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601007Their upcoming Death Magnetic will be the first-ever album to be fully available for download on Guitar Hero III on the same day as the album's release. And make no mistake, the songs on this album will kick your ass thoroughly.
