Your LEAST favourite TV show - that you never miss

I don't know about you, but ever since I got Sky Plus (Tivo to you space age Americans), I now watch far, FAR too much television.

There's no thought or dedication required anymore. It used to be, with shows you REALLY cared about, you knew their times and schedules off by heart, and you would be gutted if you missed an episode. Nowadays, with Sky Plus, I never miss ANYTHING. And it also means I end up watching a whole host of shows I wouldn't have bothered with before, but they now just tape automatically and they're there waiting for me.

For the record - I ADORE Sky Plus. Just in case you think I'm moaning about it. I love every little wire in its big clunky box.

Anyway, it also means I have a lot of programs that I now watch every week - that I'm really not too fussed about. Not to say I'll watch things even if I don't like it (Bones was my last "I am never watching this junk again!" moment), but I do huff and sigh and puff before I'll watch certain shows. These are, as the title suggests, my least favourite shows that I never miss.

Step forward - Heroes.

Heroes should be, all things considered, my favourite show of all time. Hell, it's about superheroes set in an everyday environment. It's about people with amazing powers in OUR world. And it's quite possibly the most po-faced, worthy, self-important and fucking BORING program in the history of TV.

There is not ONE character I give a crap about in this show. Yeah, the cheerleader is hot as all hell, but apart from that its slim pickings all the way. Hiro is annoying, Peter is boring (there's that word again), the plot isn't very interesting, and any potentially interesting bits are a major let down (Season One's distinctly UN-gripping finale). You know, I watch Gordon Ramsey's Hells Kitchen, and I enjoy watching THAT more than Heroes.

Think on that - The Curmudgeon enjoys watching a REALITY SHOW over a SUPERHERO show. There's obviously something wrong, and my tastes haven't changed.

Anyway - rant over. What's your (least favourite), favourite show?

I enjoy "Heroes" and at least 3-4 of the characters (Kristen Bell, yay!) but it needs new writers for sure. The plots are too convoluted, too slow-paced, and spread too far out to follow without DVD/DVR assistance. "Lost" manages to have a ridiculously massive plot with many, many characters complete with ever-expanding backstories, but it is somehow much easier to follow than the little spurts of "Heroes". It's called pacing, guys. Look into it.

Before "Moonlight" ended a few weeks ago that was the show. I watched it because it was vampires. Period. Bad emo music, a plot so blatantly ripped-off from my beloved "Angel" that it made me yell at my television, and vampire powers that made me hear "Six Million Dollar Man" sound effects in my head. It was alright, but hardly exceptional. But I dug the nerd vampire. I almost passed out when he sprang into action invoking the battle cry of "World Of Warcraft" legend Leroy Jenkins. I felt like no one else on earth who would watch that show would ever get that refernce and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy....and just a bit pathetic. A Husker Du reference during an argument that was an almost word-for-word reproduction of a conversation I'd had with my wife scored points with me too. Other than that I don't waste my time on shows that I don't love.

See, I normally wouldn't "waste time on shows I don't love" either, but I find now that I watch stuff just 'cos my wife does. It it were just down to me watching them alone I would probably watch about two shows - wrestling and, ahem, a UK soap called Coronation Street. And how tragic is that?

I mean - take a show like House. I enjoy it when I watch it, but I don't think I could say I love watching it. Sometimes the formula bores me to tears (how much time is wasted on the doctors shouting out terminologies and House nay-saying them?) but I still watch it every week.

I can't watch House, purely because I can't get past Hugh Lawrie having an American accent.

And don't you ever, EVER, diss The Street. It produces some of the best comedy on the box.

I thought that when I first started watching House too, remembering Hugh Lawrie as the "hurrah!" type in Blackadder. But a couple of episodes in it just seems natural, and on the DVD extras where he talks in his normal accent - THAT's the jarring one now.

And you won't find any Street dissing from me, Pats. I did just say it was one of my favourite shows.

"House" is a great show, but the formula would wear thin if I watched it every week. I've always thought of the basic American accent as being a lack of accent. So bland.

I would really love an episode of House where there's no patients. For me, the patients just get in the way of the story. If there was just an episode of House perving over Cuddy and making snide remarks to Wilson it would be gold. You know, instead of the "patient collapses, team make 100 suggestions what it could be with House saying no to them all, one suggestion could be right, they try that, everything seems fine until the patient starts shaking in her bed so they need to try something else...


Yeah, you know, the formula is getting pretty old.
