I think that's probably true, that there was no genuine animosity there. It is just freestyle rap, the big goof probably went up there thinking of what "cheap pop" he could use.
Still funny though.

Blaming a guy for your divorce is seldom a joke and the fact that those two don't like each other has been very well documented. Fact is, Shaq would still be a Laker if it weren't for Kobe Bryant. He even went a very long time without ever mentioning him by name begore adn after the trade. Kobe was always "the little fella", "that other guy", "number 8" (Bryant's jersey number at the time), or something; never Kobe. He's just trying to avoid the likely fine to be levied against him for unprofessional conduct by playing that rap off as a joke. My fingers are so very crossed for a hip-hop response from Kobe. It won't happen because the NBA is so uptight about their image, but the world needs another good rap feud. Especially one between truly awful rappers.

See, I don't know one thing about basketball except that Shaq plays it. I've never even heard of Kobe Bryant.
I never realised Shaq mentioned Kobe as a reason he got divorced. Man, "joke" or not that's pretty harsh. What's that all about?
Still, I think Shaq could pretty much say what he wants about anyone. Would YOU argue the point with him?

No. No I wouldn't. Here's what he said about Chinese baller Yao Ming when he entered the league. youtube.com/watch?v=kZjr82PgD7wNow I know he was messing around there, but it was still fucked up. But Big Shaq has shown that he can and will say whatever he wants. Never heard of Kobe? Yikes. I guess basketball is as popular over there as football/soccer is here.

Wow. Now THAT is pretty much offensive. I'm surprised he got let off with that. If that had been a UK sports guy who had said that he would have been hounded and probably sacked.
Yeah, Basketball has never been a big deal over in the UK, even for a sports-phobe like me. I think basketball players are more famous over here for who they've dated or what sportswear they're branded to than anything else.
Ask a random guy in the UK if he's heard of Air Jordan's and they'll say yes. Ask him who Jordan plays/played for and you'll be met with a long silence.
