I know Finland isn't exactly near Norway as such but, nyah, it's close enough. Close enough, surely, for a net-savvy major Prince fan living in Finland to have some info on this..
So it turns out that a 81 track(!) 5 CD boxset of Prince covers was released, and so the makers of the boxset sent Prince a free copy to see if he liked it.
And he liked it so much he banned it.
So kiss 81 covers of Prince songs goodbye. Fuck. I'm not a fan of other people singing Prince songs, but I would really liked to have heard that. And now, what with Prince's new found "grrr, crush kill destroy" attitude towards pretty much everything regarding other people and his music, it's gone.
You know, I love the guy, I really do, but damn he is going to lose every single fan he has if he carries this shit on. I know he's embraced certain parts of the net (or at least, he used to) but he needs to get to terms with the fact that the internet makes files and photos public property, and it's part of an artists life nowadays.
Anyway Wolfman - did this make the papers or anything in your neck of the woods? And if so - any idea the names of the artists who covered the songs?

Not only have I NOT heard about it, but it's almost 2 years before I notice this thread existed. Incidently, there's a cover of NOTHING COMPARES 2 U that's played on the radio here that sounds like a watered down karokee elevator music copy of Sinead's version with update emo-boy saddness. And for the life of me, there's no mention of it...ANYWHERE. Can't even find it on youtube. Only the radio plays it. Who the FUCK is it and can I get this rape taste out of my eardrums?
