Excited for anything?
There's a bunch of releases coming up in the fall/winter that I'll end up buying, but I can't say I'm overly excited for any of them.
I mean, Metallica's new album (if it ever comes out) has potential, but I won't get my hopes up until it kicks my ass.
Alice in Chains... without Layne? Fuck that. I'm almost dreading it.
AC/DC's upcoming release is one I can't help feeling a tinge of excitement for, though. I'd pay huge to see them live when they tour too (which, of course, is their plan I'm sure. I bet tickets are at least $100 each).
What new releases are you looking forward to?

I mean, Metallica's new album (if it ever comes out) has potential, but I won't get my hopes up until it kicks my ass. That'd be Death Magnetic and it is officially coming out in September. www.missionmetallica.comClick the "Mission: Metallica" tab (the one above the "Trailer" tab) next to the video screen on the front page of that site for a minute-long preview featuring excerpts from a few of the songs on the upcoming album. The band have described Death Magnetic as being composed of "nine epics and one song". They wrote 14 songs for the album and ended up recording 11 of them, but there will only be 10 on the finished album because CDs can only hold 79 minutes of audio without compression/skipping issues. The 10 songs that will make up the album have a combined running time of 75 minutes as it is. Early reviews by Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, and The Quietus have been thoroughly positive. Be ready for something good. Something really good.

There's nothing major in the pipelines that I can think of, but I've written a list (yes, I'm one of those people that do that) of all the CDs I want to buy this year, and its quickly spiralling out of control. It's not of anything still to come, but of bands I've just got into that I want to get more stuff of. And a few albums recently released I still haven't been able to get hold of, like Radioheads "In Rainbows" being a prime example. Thing is, the "collector" in me wants the limited boxset deal thing they've got, but its over £60 now. Would YOU buy that for a disc of bonus tracks or just buy the routine CD at around £7?

Think of it like this: If the bonus disc were being sold by itself, would you pay £53 for it?

Oh, I'm aware of the title, the release date, and the Mission Metallica stuff, Benjamin. I've heard the clips. I absolutely REFUSE to get my hopes up.
The release date has been pushed back so many times (I remember Lars saying August of 2006 was when it was due) I'm not sure I can take this "official" one seriously.
I will say this though: Death Magnetic is an interesting title.
Don't you hate that Curmudgeon? I cannot STAND it when bands do that. They release something with a handful of bonus material/tracks and the price goes up enormously.

Yeah, but Radiohead did do it in an interesting way. At first they put the album out on download with a "pay what you like" price, they then said they would release the album as either a standard or a deluxe set. So they weren't trying to get anyone to double dip or anything like that, just giving collectors something nice (and it is VERY nice) something to, well, collect. In todays climate of downloads dominating the market, something "real" that you can actually hold, and value, can't be taken too lightly.

Metallica is dead to me. Alice in Chains as well. The latter not because they suck, but because their irreplaceable singer is literally dead. Get a life, Cantrell. AC/DC is amazing obviously, but how many times can I buy what is essentially the same album? There's little on the horizon for me that I'm aware of; it's all old-school for me at this point. Hopefully Slipknot will debut some new stuff when I see them in a couple of weeks and I'll get pumped about that, but thier last album/tour was quite the disappointment. Dragonforce has a new one, but file that along with my AC/DC remark. Queen and Paul Rodgers? No disresepct but I am not interested. There is no Queen without Freddy Mercury and they need ot rename their band before I'll take them seriously. Dire fucking straits in the music industry these days.
