Through the years, there have been bands I've seen live that I know I'm very likely never going to see live again, for one reason or another. They've split, they've got shit - but I've (luckily) never seen a band that I will definitely NEVER see again because they've snuffed it.
The list of all time great acts that will never play live again is depressing, but let's think along those lines anyway. What acts would you have loved to see live, but that will never happen until you go to the Big Gig in the sky?
I think my first choice would have to be Nirvana. I just missed the whole buzz about them, and didn't really get into them until Kurt was gone. I had heard of them, but it was my friend that got me into them a few months too late. Another friend of mine has a ticket he never got to use..
Queen are an obvious choice too, and I know you can buy a ticket with "Queen" written on it, but it's QINO as far as I'm concerned (how much do I love the fact pretty much everyone here will understand that phrase)?
Others? Hendrix, the Doors and even though he's not dead, I would have fucking LOVED to have seen Sly Stone in action, but he's kinda been insane for about 30 years now, so I know that will very, VERY likely never happen too.
How about you?

Seems like NOBODY was that into Nirvana until the singer died.
Zeppelin, The Clash, Sublime, Hendrix, James Brown in his prime, Bob Marley, GNR, and the original Van Halen would top my list. My very long list.
I'm still heartbroken that I'll never see Pantera again. The last time they came through town nobody would agree to go with me. Then my friend (who wouldn't commit to going) stopped by the day after the gig asking me "Did you go to the show last night?! It was AWESOME!!!!" It's the closest I've come to strangling a man to death. Now that Dime's gone, I need to look that friend up and give him a good throttling anyways.

No, Nirvana were a huge deal in the UK before he died. Both Nevermind and In Utero were number one over here and the gigs always sold out. I think, to be honest, I was too young to even really appreciate them. I was just kind of blinded by Prince and not really intersted in much else. The year Nirvana ended was the year I kinda got interested in other music. Kurt dying had nothing to do with it, it just was the same time. Or maybe my foggy memory is playing tricks on me - who knows?
That is a terrible Pantera story. Fuck, I don't think I would ever have spoken to that "friend" of yours again if I were you. How did that happen anyway? He wasn't going, then he was going? How's that work?

He was a stoner. Never knew what the fuck he was going to do and couldn't be bothered to telegraph his intentions. All of my friends went "bye bye" so while I don't have to worry about that kind of stoner bullshit anymore, I have to work twice as hard to get anyone to go with me anywhere. The wife is forbidden, if you remember. I've tried to get to go see Everclear w/ Soul Asylum and Heaven & Hell (Sabbath fronted by Dio) w/ Alice Cooper, but NOBODY WILL COMMIT. So frustrating. Oh well, a group of coworkers is joining me at the Mayhem Festival next week so my fast shall end with a feast.
Oh, and I'm an idiot. Add Husker Du, Fugazi, Black Flag, and Bad Brains at their peak to the front of my list. What is wrong with my brain?

I would LOVE to have seen Jefferson Airplane live, as well as Led Zepplin, The Doors, Nirvana (I was into them in the early 90's - they were HUUUUGE in the UK after appearing at Reading Festival half way down the bill in 1991) I would also love to have seen Pink Floyd - I have only seen Roger Waters perform on his own a few times TC, I saw Queen - Kind of Magic tour, they were BRILLIANT!!! Freddie really was a true showman!!!!

Ohhh, hello stranger. I thought you and your buddy had vanished off the face of the earth. Guess not.
Anyway, my mother-in-law saw Queen once too and she said pretty much the same thing you did. I wonder what they were like when they were just a "little" band, you know? Just regular GIGS and not big stadium affairs. That would have been good to see.

I would have given my left arm to have seen Alice in Chains with Layne Staley as frontman. Unfortunately, by the time I learned to appreciate good music he was dead.
Nirvana would have been up there for me, partially because of the equipment destruction at the end of their shows.
Anthrax with the original lineup is something that could possibly happen again, but I'm not holding my breath. I missed them on their reunion tour. I've got a funny story about that actually. Similar to Trashcanman's Pantera story (and I would have given my other arm to see Pantera, Trashy).
...So Anthrax is rolling through town with the original lineup, and I'm trying desperately to get tickets. I ask my mom if she can pick them up for me, seeing as this was before I could drive, but she never gets around to it. My cousin was going to go to the show with me if I took care of the tickets, but the concert came and went before I could hunt any down. All weekend after the show people were calling in to the local rock station telling the DJs how awesome it was and anyone who missed the show was an idiot. I was so pissed off I could barely get through my day on the Monday afterwards. My mom comes home from work and says something like "Hey Ben, what was that band you wanted to see on the weekend?" "Anthrax, mother." "Oh, my friend so-and-so at work has connections at the venue. She said she had like 20 extra tickets."
D'oh!

Anthrax (any line-up) is in my top 5 of bands I've never had an opportunity to see. I used to e-mail Scott Ian every now and then to tell him how Sin Cal was the punk and metal capitol of California and they should come. He said they would. Never did. Not to split hairs, but did you forget about Neil Turban adn Dan Lilker- both in the original original lineup? 'Thrax was at one point going to tour with both Bush and Belladonna.. THAT would have been the best show of my life if it had happened and I could have gone. Pantera was amazing live, Ben. I saw them open up on Sabbath's reunion tour. Probably the single best concert I've been to qualitywise; the best bands of the old school and new school of metal.

Oops, I meant to put *classic* lineup.
I bet Pantera put on one hell of a show, and then to have Sabbath come up next? Whoa, look out!
One band I forgot to mention is Exodus. Chances are Zetro will never rejoin as frontman, and since original frontman Paul Baloff is dead there's no way he's coming back either (but how kickass would that be to see a zombie singing Bonded By Blood?). They still exist, but their sound is completely different from what it was in the 80's and early 90's. I still love them to death, but they aren't the same band they were a decade and a half ago.
