Dear God. I really, really, REALLY hope this is a joke. But the net is all a buzz with it, so there may be a grain of truth in it. But apparantly the first choice Chris Nolan threw into the hat for Catwoman is.. CHER. Yes. CHER. This can't be true.. can it? Seriously, this is wrong on so many levels it threatens to overturn the natural order of the universe. Here's where I heard it first - but its not the only place that's talking about it. www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/4975.aspJohnny Depp as the Riddler is a masterstroke, natch. I just hope THIS is a tongue-in-cheek lie to throw off reporters.

No way in hell that's true. Chris Nolan wouldn't go for that. Avi Arad, maybe. Not Chris Nolan.

AICN called bullshit on this, but the sources seem somewhat legit. And this is an awfully mean joke to play on Cher if it is one. I kinda dig the "aging vamp" idea, but not with that living plastic surgery disaster in the role (though that is an unusually good picture of her). Even Madonna would be preferable. No director, producer, or studio would turn down Jolie in favor of that nonsense.

I always wonder how that sort of shit gets started. I mean, is it a sort of Chinese whispers thing, where one studio hand lets it slip to someone, and then (Waynes World quote time), "they tell someone, and then they tell someone..." How does it all happen?
An ageing vamp is a nice idea, but its not really fitting in with the whole Batman universe (certainly not one I've ever read), and ageing vamp is one thing - ageing vamp in either skin-tight rubber or spandex - not something that's going to float my boat, thanks.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Catwoman that explores the whole animal rights thing. Politically relevant, interesting, controversial, and leaves lots of grey area. She could be an eco-terrorist who steals for fun and to finance her insane animal rights group. Or they could save the eco-terrorism for Poison Ivy. That could be even more effective. Either way, I demand this out of one of the next two Batflicks.
