You would think studio execs would have had their fingers burnt badly enough with that without ruining another beloved anime classic.

Sigh, here it is anyway. Nice teaser, though..

Interestingly, they seem to be going with the Gathchaman title, when everyone (certainly in the UK anyway, not sure about the US) grew up calling it BOTP. Hmmm.
