Its not often the US Album charts make the UK newspapers (except if a British act gets to number one, which happens, like, once in never). But Slipknot getting to number one, when it was previously reported that The Game's third ("and final" - do ALL rappers pretend to retire? What is that about?) album beat All Hope Is Gone to number one by just 13 sales.
But after a recount it showed that Slipknot beat The Game by 1,000 sales. They narrowly missed the top spot in the UK too, peaking at number two just behind the new album by reformed (and massively popular) band The Verve.
So a #1 and #2 album? Pretty good going for a non-mainstream metal act that still manages to scare off casual rock fans. The album's pretty kick ass, too. Nice work, guys!

Yeah, this harkens back to Pantera's shocking victory with "Far Beyond Driven". AHIG is certainly cooler than the last Slipknot album, but it still has some awful pop flourishes. One song sounds like the chorus is being sung by a Backstreet Boy. I haven't bought it yet since Roadrunner has been screwing me by releasing special editions just months after their big-name albums are released, but I borrowed it from a friend at work. I played it at work once and the next night when I put my iPod on, one of my coworkers (who NEVER complains about my music) pleaded "no more metal, please". In other words, Slipknot's still got it.
