To give a bit of an insight into what we're "into" at the moment, here's a chance to tell us all two things.. 1. The last CD you bought. and 2. The next CD you're going to buy. With CD I do of course mean vinyl or download or, er, MP3 or those stupid stick things you put into the computer (seriously, what is THAT about?). Just tell us about the music you buy. The last album I bought? OK, don't laugh - Hanson's new album. Yes, Hanson. You read that right. And you know what? I bought it on import because I couldn't WAIT for it to be released in the UK. Hanson are my number one "guilty" secret - a "pop band" in the very best terms - not some generic smiling gimps who sing what they're told - but a band who write and play thier own shit but are very much "pop" in style. You know, I think I'm doing them a dis-service here. Check out "The Great Divide" on their Myspace.. www.myspace.com/hansonmusicAwesome. And yet people think that they're in some time warp, still twelve years old singing "Mmmbop" when they're now all (obviously) in their twenties. Not cool, not popular (certainly not in the UK, I don't know about the US, but man - ALL good. And the next CD I'm going to buy? Has to be Marilyn Manson's "Eat Me Drink Me" album. I've read a few reviews and they've all been glowing, and it's one I'm seriously looking forward to. I've always been really into Manson, and in age where rock music seems to mean Lavigne and Pink to some people, he seems more vital than ever. There. That's mine - Hanson and Manson, how about that? And how about YOU...?

You are one brave muthafucka, pimping that stuff on a public forum. Gotta respect it. The last albums I bought -all at once- were NWA's "Straight Outta Compton", Patti Smith's "Land", and Elvis Presley's "30 #1 Hits". Can't say I don't have diverse tastes. Next up, I'm seriously looking at Mike Patton's new band, Peeping Tom. I saw them perform on Henry Rollin's show recently and was quite enamoured with the notion of Mike Patton flanked by two hot black singer/beatboxer/violinist girls with a band and DJ playing accessible (for him) rock music. Maybe I'll get that tomorrow, typing about it's getting me all excited.

Well Curmudgeon, if you're excited for the new Manson album you must not have heard the first single yet... I don't know how to break it to you man, but it's terrible. Heart Shaped Glasses. It's an absolutely terrible song. I haven't liked anything by Manson since Beautiful People, though...
The last album I bought was Megadeth's latest: United Abominations. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised; I didn't think they had enough left in them to release a solid 4 star album. Even though its lyrics are largely political, something I hate, the guitar work is just EXCELLENT.
I'll probably by Alice in Chains Unplugged next, but as far as new releases and upcoming releases go, I'm not all that excited for anything.

First of all, I have to agree with The Curmudgeon: Hanson is a guilty pleasure to listen to. However, I'll wear that one on my sleeve because these guys keep moving and improving. I think the timing of the whole MMMMMBOP thing was really what got them the negative label most people still believe in. I hate songs played a BILLION times on the radio (hence why I do shy away from listening at all costs) and can never listen to one the same way again....except for MMMMMBop. Go figure. I recently bought myself the first 5 IRON MAIDEN albums (right up to Powerslave) as well as the remastered BAT OUT OF HELL album + DVD from our good ol' pal Meat Loaf. The MAIDEN albums have a quality that just shines through despite the lyrical content (sometimes stretched a little too far). I'm also left to wonder, who thought this music was scary once upon a time? As for BAT OUT OF HELL, the remaster is AWESOME to say the least. I just wish they had kept the original album track listing (the remaster adds bonus tracks). The final statement on that album should be FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, not a live version of DEAD RINGER FOR LOVE. Jim Steinman weaves incredible stories in his lyrics, BUT (and this is a BIG BUT) if ANYone else other than Meat Loaf sings his songs, they just fall flat. Speaking of Jim Steinman, anyone heard him sing? I have his BAD FOR GOOD album (originally intended as a follow up to BAT OUT OF HELL before Meat Loaf lost his voice for a period of time) and lets just say that it's weird hearing Kermit the Frog singing songs intended for Meat Loaf. As for my next purchase....why, I'm hoping it'll be the new MEGADETH album. I've enjoyed all their albums thus far and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the new one.... Best Regardss, InvisibleWolfMan

There's actually a few things coming out that I'm excited about. Has anyone heard the new Smashing Pumpkins single, "Tarantula?" Holy shit its good stuff. If they make an album of that quality its gotta be contender for album of the year. I've always really wanted to get into the Pumpkins (I have the Melon Collie album, the Zero EP and a few early singles) but they've never really dominated my collection they way they probably should.
And, of course, the new Prince CD comes out in August..
So, uh, is everyone on this site into Megadeath except me then?

I'm embarassed to admit that I do not own an Iron Maiden album. Powerslave was on the top of my to buy list for a while, but I guess it just got pushed aside.
I have heard "Tarantula," and it's great. I used to listen to Smashing Pumpkins a lot, but I haven't really heard much about how "Zeitgeist" (I think that's it) is supposed to sound. I'm sure our local rock radio station will play it all the way through when it's released, so I'll have to check it out.

Sorry, Curmudgeon, but I too dig the 'Deth. However, I do think that Dave Mustaine is a total dick (oddly, even more so since he found God) so I don't buy his albums. I haven't heard the new Pumpkins, but I do know that only Billy Corgan and the drummer are reuniting so it hardly qualifies as a Pumpkins reunion. But Corgan is pretty kickass so I'm sure the new stuff will be good as long as they don't try the whole electronica thing again. "It's you that I adoooore/ You'll always be my whooooore." I'm glad to see that there are still some fellow Maiden fans out there as well: best live metal band in the world right now, period.

I've been investing in a few older acts recently, so I've been buying albums from The Rolling Stones, Dylan, Bowie, The Who ... so my next purchase is going to be a couple of older Aerosmith albums.
Can't fault the classics, guys.

trashcanman, Yes, Maiden IS the best metal band out there. With a frontman like Bruce, how could they not be? And the music is just kick-ASS! Incidently, there LIVE AFTER DEATH album just became my most recent purchase. I think SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON and SOMEWHERE IN TIME will be the next ones I purchase. I'm really digging their music now after only "discovering" it less than a month ago! (I was a sheltered child...hahahahahahahaaaaaa ) Best Regards, InvisibleWolfMan

Well! It seems IRON MAIDEN is threatening to dominate my purchase allowance this month! Not only did I buy SOMEWHERE IN TIME and SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON, I also bought NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, FEAR OF THE DARK, and LIVE AT DONINGTON. I just finished listening to SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON today, and I must say that it is THE most perfect IRON MAIDEN album so far. The songs "tie" together the whole album concept and the superb lyrics provide a narrative that is almost unexpected since these tracks can stand just as powerfully on their own. Not only that, the CD player in my car cycles from the end to the beginning of a CD without a "gap" and to my surprise, it was like the album had never ended. In fact, it was sounding better the second time around! ;D Up until SEVENTH SON, I've yet to hear a dip in the constantly growing quality of their music. Such a rare thing these days. Not only that, the more I listen to their development, the more the older stuff seems light years ahead of it's time. My hat's off to this band! Best Regards, InvisibleWolfMan

Wow Curmy your music taste is so bad it almost makes me want to take out a restraining order against it.
The last CD I bought was the wonderful Bat for Lashes. The next CD I will buy may be Interpol's last LP or The Charlatan's last LP. I missed them both at the time and now they are cheap on amazon seems a good idea...

The Charlatans? Christ, are those fuckers still going..?
Hey man, my music taste is awesome. From Bowie to Pumpkins to RATM to Manson to Prince to Weezer to Ash to Korn to Placebo to CSS to Shitdisco to Dylan to Slipknot to The Sounds to, yeah I said Hanson - my music kicks all kinds of ass.
Period.

CSS sound like they produce bad Saint Etienne b-sides from 1990.
Jesus Curmy, at least half of these bands you mentioned = sheer, undiluted TORTURE!

If Saint Etienne produced anything that had lyrics like "Am I A Horse, Am I On Fiiiiiiiire?" then maybe people would still give a shit about them.
I'm probably walking straight into this one, but what do you think of Hadouken?

Does anyone else read the word "Curmy" and hear Miss Piggy's voice?
