You know, I actually sat and pondered the title of this thread for a few minutes. Space is limited up there, so how do you shorten "English language version?" English version? Non-Chinese version? Because, yes, the trailer has already been posted (by Trashcanman, if memory serves) but this one is in English. www.comicbookmovie.com/street_fighter/news/?a=5845And you know what? I actually really want to see this. If it was a movie based purely on Chun-Li I would pass, but did I catch a glimpse of Vega? And did I see a guy in a Skeleton suit? Wasn't there a guy like that in that 3-D SF game? Ah, whatever - I still want to see it. Bet it sucks, though.

Ah hell nah. The trailer I posted was from an upcoming anime feature. This is some ol' live-action bullshit. Compare the past live-action adaptation to the original anime.
'Nuff said.
Chun Li rocks and i'd love to see a movie about her, but with as many amazing high-profile Asian actresses as there are, I cannot much abide a white girl playing a Chinese character these days. This is not "Big Trouble in Little China". If I hear it rules, I'll give it a peak. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Yeah, why they've got Lana Lang from Smallville playing her I'll never know. It's like the studio execs balked at the idea of actually casting, you know, someone Asian in a lead role. Can't have that, eh?
God that original SF film was fucking abysmal. I couldn't even finish watching that clip, it brought back so many bad memories of actually paying money and sitting in a cinema to watch it. I've got the anime movie, which is like Citizen Kane compared to that Van Damme bomb. Still a worrying amount of pantie shots in that fight scene though (let's not even go into the shower scene..)
I wouldn't go to the cinema to see it, but I would definitely rent this new one, for curiosity sakes if nothing else.

Worried by pantyshots? Not familiar with much anime, eh? This link sums up the entire Japanese media culture in one video clip. en.fooooo.com/watch.php?id=ffd1d2e7813ab1be5e13a704ad450e8fIt gets worse. At least that show is a comedy. start at 5:50 for an embarrassing display. This is a country where they sell used panties in VENDING MACHINES we're talking about here. Well, at least they own their perversion.

No, I am well aware of the peculiar tastes displayed in Anime; I watched Legend of the Overfiend (I won't try and spell the correct name) when I was about 14. I kinda got into Anime for a little while after that (watched the entire Guyver series and a few other movies like Vampire Hunter D) and, yeah, a lot of it is fucked up. Plus, there is SO much stuff out there, and it's all Vol 1.4 and Series 3 that it's a fairly baffling genre to get seriously involved in.
There was a British series called Japanorama where a guy travelled Japan and documented on their different cultures and styles. It's a place I've always wanted to go to, but you know the one major thing that puts me off? Their treatment of animals. This may sound racist (and wrong - maybe it's only Chinese cuisine), but I don't think I could handle seeing dogs in restaurants and shit like that. Japan is a place I will go to one day, but I think I'll stick to McDonalds there.
On a happier subject - you seem to be a bit of an Anime expert, Trashy. What got you hooked?

Vampire Hunter D. From there it just kind of snowballed. I pick and choose my anime very carefully because it's easy to waste a lot of time and money on crap since it is (as you said) so such a massive genre. But percentagewise, I'd say anime has a better overall track record of quality than any other genre of entertainment. If American films and television fared half as well, I'd never leave the house. I was emailed by an Irish girl who read a review of mine and had questions about a particular set. Apparently you can hardly get the stuff in Europe unless you get it from here. Is this true? It's a shame if it is.
I believe it is not Japan that eats dogs and cats. Places like China and the Philippines have it as part of their culture because they both have historically had too many people and not enough wealth or food. People gots to eats what they can gets. A Dutch friend of mine's family raised rabbits in their backyard. His dad would go grab one out of the hutch and fucking twist its neck and that was dinner. Disturbing much? I know it's silly to sweat animal cruelty since I eat meat. Lots of meat. Copious fucking amounts of it. But I guess the culture has just made me a softy because I'm just not a fan of seeing animals get turned into the stuff I eat.

My God Trashie, that Hanzo's a cool dude. The elusive box-set turned up yesterday and bizarrely I don't know which order I watched them in - but they're all nicely perverse. My fave was the one when he hides in the linen closet in the Geisha House/Money Mint. That poor concubine was only getting herself a blanket - and bang!! He was sitting there like Buddha - I had to laugh (!) Good one T.

Hi guys!
If this movie doesn't suck then i swear I'll eat my own head. Why make a streetfighter movie & not have it about Ryu & Ken?
I think the producers really missed the boat here. I think if they gave me & you guys a million dollars we could make our own movie that would entertain the hardcore fans better than this new movie will.
I propose we get one of us painted green, stick on a large orange wig & some vampire teeth and hey presto! Blanka is born!
Someone else could do steroids for a few months, dont shave, wear red y-fronts, and hey presto! Zangief lives!
Man, this stuff is easy. The finished product may not be Hollywood quality but i think it'd be more entertaining than crinking my neck to see a flash of Kristina Kreuk's panties.
FYI Curmudgeon, she is half Chinese.

Half Chinese, Half American - All Dull.
I don't mind the fact its about Chun-Li. I mean, if they make a franchise out of it (hilariously optimistic concept, I know) and give a few characters their own story that could be pretty cool. Won't happen, of course.
And your home-made SF idea intrigues me. Blanka.. could work. Zangief.. hmmm.. could happen. We could also force feed someone hamburgers for three months and then stick him in a nappy and fire him from a cannon.
You know, thinking about it - that would fucking RULE.

And Silverbullet is off like a shot! Welcome. If I had a million bucks, I would give it to you so i could see that movie. Awesome.
Man, I think I've started a Hanzo The Razor craze! For the first time, I feel like a bonafide guru. I'm glad you like, Paul. I knew I was officially an asshole when I laughed my ass off at Hanzo raping that chick for no reason other than she was nervous about housing a rapist in her room and then calling it "The Treatment".
