Sniff. It's a bit touching this, really, if you stop and think about it.
Trashcanman is the first person in the Curmudgeon's Fortress of Solitude to reach one THOUSAND posts, thus ranking him Super Villain (not the highest accolade you can get in here, but you'll just have to keep posting to find out what is).
Seriously - 1,000 posts. On my little website. I'm very proud.
Here's to the next 1,000 Trashy. And the rest of you.. you best try and keep up!

Hooray for me! How long have I been doing this anyways? 1000 posts well spent, I say. This is by far the longest I've spent on any message board. I usually get bored and move on in a matter of days or weeks at the very longest. It is I who should be congratulating YOU, Mr. Curmudgeon sir, for having the only message board on the infinite netscape that I've deemed worthy of my time. Thanks.

Hey, the fact I've managed to not only attract writers of your, Wolfman, the Bens (as I.. will never call them again), Hacker etc caliber, but to keep you coming back.. I quickly noticed when going through this board the quality of the messages and the intelligence and passion of the people leaving the messages. I only use the term "Saviours of the Internet" half-jokingly.
Anyway, before we all begin one group hug, quick question directed at YOU, Trashy. I was reading some of your Amazon reviews and looking at your profile in question. Just out of curiosity - why is Prince's Gold Experience in your Wish List? Any particular reason?

I don't know about posts or whatever, but he's a fucking good recommender. I bought that 'Drawn Together', (I ordered Season 1 but somehow ended up with Season 3. Hey ho.)and it's brilliant. I have never laughed out loud at a cartoon. It'll surprise you guys to learn I don't much laugh out loud at anything - but 'Drawn Together' fucking forced it out. These fellas take no prisoners. I can't imagine anyone, except maybe the hardy souls at the Fortress, not being deeply offended by it. Just how we like our entertainment at Ess Towers.
Nice going Trash but no slacking....

Another score! I bring the hardcore shit whenever I can, Paul. Now I'm picturing you as Christopher Lee after that comment about not laughing at anything. And now I'm picturing him laughing at Drawn Together. These are the kinds of thoughts I live with constantly. It can't possibly be healthy, but it's fun.
A coworker of mine has gone Prince crazy, Curmudgeon, and had been playing an iPod playlist of dozens of his songs lately. Seems like whenever I heard one I don't know that made me say "this is awesome,I've got to buy this" and I ran over to see what album it's on, it was The Gold Experience. But the CD is showing up as out of print which makes me think a remaster may be forthcoming so I'm not sure about buying it this second. I want it now, but if there is a better edition around the bend, I'd rather wait.
That picture is all kinds of wrong, InvisibleWolfMan. Good job!

I would be shocked and amazed if another edition of Gold Experience came out, Trash. This was the album recorded and released during the whole fall-out with Warner Bros and the "SLAVE" business that came from it. As a result the album itself kinda got overlooked (although it did boast Prince's only UK number one - and that single made me decide to buy every Prince release ever) and a lot of people got turned off Prince for life. A real shame.
So yeah, it's now OOP (to use an ebay term) and I really don't see it getting back into print any time soon.
And Wolfy - what is that picture all about? Translation?

The picture should be slightly self-explanatory and what he's saying is "And who is THIS?" If you look in the left hand corner, you'll notice that although it's in Italian, it says "The Italian League To Help Control AIDS." Although not my intent, it ironically implies that trashcanman is a disease that spreads.
Back to THE GOLD EXPERIENCE; Trashy...BUY. THIS. NOW! Another blind buy that you won't be disappointed with. Gotta love how Prince starts the album off....
Oh...and check your messages Trashy, maybe you won't have to shell out an arm and a leg.

Well, I'd best make with the buying then. I really can't see how something that high-profile goes out of print. Somebody's gotta want to put that out. I thought the "slave" thing was pathetic (how much money does the man have, again?), but taking on his label was worth kudos. But don't demean the past suffering of entire race to make a point about business.

Despite his "quirks", as least he's not... I actually got my GOLD EXPERIENCE in 2004 when by chance a trade shop had one just sitting around, barely used and for probably £2. I love going to trade shops where shop keepers don't realize what they've got. The most fitting ironic thing was that it had the official sticker on the case with NO wear on it, yet the case is inscribed with SONY MUSIC on the back...despite being a WB release!

On the subject of the "Slave" thing, I remember reading that Prince was never trying to compare himself with actual slaves. The whole problem was that Prince had no freedom with his music. I have loads of bootlegs of live shows and he talks to the crowd about it sometimes. He wanted to release about three records a year but WB wouldn't let him because the fans "couldn't keep up." He had to release The Most Beautiful Girl in the World on his own label because WB didn't think it would be a hit (and it was his only UK no1) so I could see why he'd be pissed.
But, oh, it was a good time to be a Prince fan. He was in the papers everyday, and when the Exodus album came out he had went from writing Slave on his face to putting a mask on and calling himself Tora Tora (a name I went by online for a good few years). There was an interview on a British music show once, where Prince sat with his mask on and refused to speak, and only whispered answers into his (then) girlfriend's ear. You could almost hear the sweat dripping from the interviewer's brow.
But anyways, if you can get the Gold Experience for a decent price (some places charge far too much cos it's out of print) then, indeed, go for it. I'd be curious to know what you think.

Wolfman hit me with a deal on Ebay that I'm awaiting the conclusion to. Looks good. I know I'll love it becasue I already heard many of the songs and they are fantastic. I'd love to see that masked interview. That is just genius. Prince should have released ALL of his music on his own label. That is the only way to get complete freedom.
